Hello,
There are a couple of possible problems with that source. One is that we don't know the licence associated with that map. The other is that the languages used in the placenames on it may not match local usage, and that's typically what language name tags should be in - see https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf for more details.
Before doing any other mapping can you make sure that you post details about the licence for the map that you are copying from, and also explain how the names that you are using match the rules in the "Disputed Territories" document?
Best Regards,
Andy

My guess is that "Q" is an attempt to square buildings? Thats what I've assumed at changeset/104455659 . Unfortunately there are 1576 of them now...

Hello ciaraford and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
I notice that you've created a lot of buildings named "Q" here. I think that there's been a bit of a miscommunication - perhaps someone has suggested that you "press Q [in the iD editor] to make sure that buildings are rectangular" (Q stands for "square"). I don't think that they meant "give each building the name Q".
If you want to find all the buildings that you've named "Q" you can use this query: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/17bl .

See osm.org/user_blocks/5003 for context of this revert.

Thanks for fixing this. I'm currently tidying up the rest of the "mapping not based on reality" that this user contributed.

To be clear - data taken from Bing Maps is NOT suitable for copying into OSM for licence reasons, although Bing aerial imagery can be used. See osm.wiki/FAQ#What_images_and_maps_may_I_use_to_make_maps_from.3F for what is acceptable.

All update fails and a sample of the delete fails look OK.

2 zombie buildings. Both look OK

Nothing motorway-secondary.

I've also checked all non-deletes in this changeset and and edited the worst "zombies".

20 ways failed revert, all have been at least to some extent an improvement.

blackboxlogic, thanks for the explanation.

Utsab Khatiwada,
I sympathise with your problem, and have already suggested that the person who's directing your edits here engages directly with the OSM US community.

For info, I asked a question about this change at osm.org/user_blocks/5000 .

One more thing - I know it's a pain when you're making changes from a mobile phone, but it'd be great if you can add a bit more detail about why you changed the names back.
I think what you did was correct (it was exactly what I did in changeset/90450146 last year) - it'd just be great to have more information about the change.

Hello aslanosm,
I'm guessing here that you're trying to revert the previous name changes on node/4027452036 here?
From looking at http://osm.mapki.com/history/node.php?id=4027452036 (not sure how good that looks on a mobile phone) you can see that although you've changed some of the names back, some of the names are still the ones added changed by the last editor. If you'd like them all changed back, please let us (OSM's Data Working Group) know by emailing [email protected].

If you scroll down on a changeset page like this one you can click on "Changeset XML". In there, in this case, you will see 'uid="152074" '.
Any bit of OSM XML that someone has edited will do, so if you look at the XML of the history of an OSM object you'll see the uid for each version.

There are both restorations of deleted ways and deletions of duplicates here.

An example of a restore is way/928687262/history (the previous deletion was an attempt to remove duplication, but removed valid data too).

An example of a delete is
way/928700795/history . The addition was a duplicate of way/172432818/history, the deletion valid and the restore in error.

Hello BaasankhuuB,
Lots of buildings here, including
way/807236478 , are named "ger". This seems unlikely. Can you explain what "ger" means?

Hello,
Can you please in a bit more detail what "I change some places name, with the correct one" means? What are you changing from and to?

Hello,
This is your first changeset, and the first thing you've done is to delete something, breaking existing OSM data. See https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/175i for an example. We'll have to restire that.

Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM's Data Working Group

I don't understand how blackboxlogic's advice here "is in conflict with that guidance and the One feature, one OSM element guidance"?
