Changes to posted entries in OSM, without reference to the original contributor.
Posted by Robert Copithorne on 24 September 2015 in English.I noticed that a number of my entries in OSM have been changed, without my knowledge. If something is changed for good reason, I would like to know about it, so that I can avoid problems requiring changes in future.
I have posted on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, the following comment on the changeset I found that changed an entry without my knowledge. I hope that the contributor to the changeset will let me know why the change was made as requested:
“Changeset:____
Fixing improper use of the name tag and various other incorrect tagging”
“improper use of the name tag”; “incorrect tagging” - please explain the proper use of the name tag, and the specific incorrect tagging, in the case of Roger Creek Main Regeneration Forest T.U. 3, without reference to Wiki. I am anxious to learn, and would like to know what the rational was in this case, so I can avoid such problems in future. Thank you

You can contact him via the changeset comments, as you wanted him to do before modifying entities you made.

Also keep in mind that we are all editing each other’s work. Most of us have prefered mapping regions, but it doesn’t mean that data belongs to its original contributor in an exclusive, dont-edit-without-notifying sense.
It’s good practice to notify a contributor when you think (s)he’s done a poor job that can be avoided in the furture, but it isn’t a requirement. Contacting contributors when a given changeset looks odd (like you just did) is also a normal and good thing to do.

Referencing the wiki save a lot of retyping!
Today I have removed some name tags where they were used to state what sport was played there. This is clearly against the wiki! Read it … osm.wiki/Names And for my deletions specifically osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only
And yes I sent a message to the originator of the incorrect use .. so as to avoid the future misuse of the tag.
