| First tries in Heslach | Thanks for the comments. Having to remember tags isn't exclusive to Potlatch, of course, but it's scheduled that a future version will have an easier preset system; same goes for the undo option. Potlatch is intended to be palette-free ("modeless"): on the one hand it means you have to remember when to shift-click and when not, but on the other you don't need to remember what icon does what, or keep switching. There's advantages to both ways, I guess. |

| First tries in Heslach | How do you think it could become more intuitive? Always happy to hear suggestions. |
| Edit Option and time to wait | Spot on. Tom - maybe I should supply you with a crossdomain.xml file that allows access from both osm.org and www.osm.org. |
| I do not like "Copyright Easter Eggs" | If it helps: yes. Richard for OSMF :) |
| Edit Option and time to wait | Can you give me the ID of a track (or URL) that's being problematic? |
| Traces Upload Limit | Glad you like it. :) |
| Traces Upload Limit | (Incidentally, for what it's worth, I think the simplest solution would be a little notice saying "You have 5 tracks already in the queue - please consider waiting for these to complete before uploading any more, so that other people have a chance to upload their work. Thanks.") |
| Traces Upload Limit | Don't forget that both Potlatch and JOSM let you work with tracks even if they haven't been processed through the database. In JOSM, of course, you simply load them off your hard disc. In Potlatch, you upload them as usual, then click the "edit" link to the RIGHT of the track. (Not the "Edit" tab at the top of the screen.) This is available as soon as you've uploaded the track. You don't have to wait for it to be inserted into the database. |
| Getting used to relations | Good idea. (But remember the 'repeat' button is your friend!) |
| Another Yahoo question | You should get a less paranoid firewall! There is no way that maps.yahooapis.com/track.php is sending anything even remotely like a phone number. It sends the latitude and longitude of the area you're looking at, and that's about it. Any firewall dim enough to think that a long number is automatically a phone number deserves to be filed under "crying wolf". |
| Another Yahoo question | How _can_ Yahoo gather your phone number or credit card info? What is it that makes you think that's happening? |
| Tiger - node litter - US New Hampshire | Sure, that's been a known consideration with the Yahoo imagery since the start. We wouldn't have introduced it if we didn't believe it was safe, but the situation's always under review. |
| pre-mapping or not? | One of the benefits of having an OSM map on my eTrex is that, as 80n says, you can see what's been mapped already. Mapping in Worcester the other week, it was a lovely sense of achievement to join up with the previously mapped area... |
| Tiger - node litter - US New Hampshire | No, Welshie is right. I can say this with some certainty as I actually wrote Potlatch. If you don't believe me then look at the code.... |
| Worcester | Looking great now! I thought I'd have a go at filling in some of the city centre, based on many GPS tracks from the past, memory and an out-of-copyright map... will take a notebook next time Anna and I go for a pint there and take down a few more street names. |
| Work in progress | cantece - sorry, it's not available as yet; this is just a preview. I'll post more details when it's publically available. |
| How do they do this? | And I've always had a small bee in my bonnet that, although I've probably covered as many miles with my GPS as anyone, I tend to do a lot of cross-country stuff with the eTrex set to "auto" rather than "every 1s" - so I never get onto the GPS leaderboards... But yes, as above: quality, not quantity. |
| Chipping Norton | Heh, I'd not thought of that... There's a chippy in Chippy with a sign outside it saying "Chippy". Is that you, too? |
| Recent changes | Yes, the idea is that the map cycles through the most recently edited places - so you can see where people are working. For OSM it'll by necessity be pretty limited right now: the /changes API doesn't tell you who's doing the editing, nor (of course) rerender the tiles on demand. But I think it'll be interesting nonetheless. |
| Poynton, Cheshire - roads complete | Looks excellent. (The inlaws live in Bramhall so I know Poynton passingly!) Think we probably need some speedhump tags for Clifford Road though... |
