Dear Admins,
I do not know if it is possible to develop a "period of time/traces upload limit" (by file weight, since the number of points is not determined till later, and the numbers of traces is not a reliable way of measuring it, with the software that I am using to track with my BB I hardly make a file with more than 700 points). I have been checking why there are so many queued files today (with a queue of more than 7 hours), and checking the list found that the user Romania Tracks uploaded tens (if not hundreds) of traces ranging from 4.000 to 12.000 points each, obviously delaying the queue. I seriously doubt that he or she is going to use all those points (We are talking of at least a couple of hundred thousands) in the short term, so I really do not see any use in uploading all of them at once, delaying all the rest of the users work.
Thank you very much for reading this

The tracks of Romania are only Spam, there is no usefull information in it.
I agree: admins please do something against spamming.

Sure it would be possible to implement limits, but it would be complicated and our experience to date is that it is not a significant problem - very occasionally somebody will upload a large batch of traces like this and it will cause a short term backlog but it usually clears fairly quickly.

Only 20 tracks left right now...

But we are still with a 12 hour lag and the Mapnik render for this week already processed :(

Don't forget that both Potlatch and JOSM let you work with tracks even if they haven't been processed through the database.
In JOSM, of course, you simply load them off your hard disc.
In Potlatch, you upload them as usual, then click the "edit" link to the RIGHT of the track. (Not the "Edit" tab at the top of the screen.) This is available as soon as you've uploaded the track. You don't have to wait for it to be inserted into the database.

(Incidentally, for what it's worth, I think the simplest solution would be a little notice saying "You have 5 tracks already in the queue - please consider waiting for these to complete before uploading any more, so that other people have a chance to upload their work. Thanks.")

Thank you Richard. I did not noticed before that the Edit options was active as soon as you upload a trace (Quite strange I must say).
I agree with you about the message. But a weight measure will help too. How "heavy" can a reasonable file be? 1MB? 2MB? I think that people that want to work in other scales (like this guy from Romania) should use JOSM (I haven't learn to use it yet).

Richard,
Your recommendation message is there. That's a fast use of the users feedback :)
If your upload more than 5 files, the message recommends you to consider waiting till those are processed before uploading more. It is just a recommendation.

Glad you like it. :)

What is the advantage of having a gpx track database import completed when one can already use it beforehand? And why are the tracks of Romania not useful?
