Thanks for the tip. I can keep the amenity off the sidewalks moving forward. Unfortunately, I've been doing it wrong for a while. :(

I don't know how to search OSM effectively, but any Changeset Comment I made includes "added a bin to a sidewalk" or "added a barrel to a sidewalk".

How do I search by Changset Comment, so I can go back and fix the points?
