It took around 7 months to redraw the old UNDP-package ( that was corrupted). It was done after the Mogadishu-city drawing was build and provided by Madmappers.com. The few older sat-images that were used were not fully geo-corrected and to combine that with 100k-maps gave this result. It was good enough for the purpose to have something to navigate with in a country were ngo’s didn’t had anything suitable at that time. After it was finished and published as a GPS-package by FAO-Swalim it became an issue in OSM. Besides some northern city-drawings it was done by 1 person. :-) . At the moment I’m looking for historical maps in the southern part to update databases with old ppl-names and -locations and clan-locations. If anyone has the 400k- Carta della Somalia (IGMI) as scanned images and is willing to borrow me a copy, I would be very pleased. The original package 100k’s I have combined with Russian 100k’s to fill the blanks in the Canadian/ Brittish coverage in the southern part, so if intressted I can build an updated drawing in those parts.

The material was not derived from images but from the 100k’s- scanned maps (from the 70- 90’s)

I’m always willing to help you if you have new collected GIS-data to rebuild the old 2005/2007-package that was published in 2008.
