Look out. A noobie at work.

Posted by Mark Ainsworth on 26 February 2009 in English.

Just thought I had better warn everyone that I've now joined and have started making changes to my home town of Grantham, UK. Having got an iphone and installed motion-x I'm basically recording everywhere I go and modifying the map.

I started with potlatch, but soon discovered that some of the required changes take longer to complete than the spare time I have. So all editing will now take place off-line and I promise only to upload when things are finished. In the mean time I appologise for the junction of the A52 and A607 at Wharf Road. This is an absolute disaster since the council redesigned it and trying to figure out how to represent it on a map is not going to be a five minute job. It is only half finished I will fix it as soon as possible. Sorry!

If your editing offline, download the data every time you sit down (and upload before you go away). If your downloaded data is a day or more old then someone might have added some stuff in the same area and it is easier to have smaller amounts of merges/conflicts done by the server.

It is better to upload as you go along, and re-download at least once a day, or more often in highly active areas. You will need to get used with this as you will get an error after api 0.6 if someone else has edited something before you upload.
