10 months ago | Please use OSM defintions of Suburb, Quarter, and Neighborhood, not the normal US usage. See: place=suburb Quarter and Neighborhood should only be used when describing a sub-area of an area. Otherwise, Suburb should always be used.
10 months ago | Please use OSM defintions of Suburb and Neighborhood, not the normal US usage. See: place=suburb Neighborhood should only be used if it is a sub-location in an area (otherwise only Suburb is necessary).
10 months ago | Has this already begun? I’m interested in the project and didn’t see it listed on the county website yet. Thanks.
over 2 years ago | It should be 'route=running'. Thanks for the catch! I'll change it.
over 4 years ago | In your "greenway redos" you are destroying the Cycle Route relations that several of us have worked to maintain and update. For example, see Relation: McAlpine Creek Greenway (10384554). Please fix those you have removed.
almost 5 years ago | Thank you for commenting. I quickly realized this and have been considering if "Bolin (Creek)" or something similar would be more appropriate.
almost 5 years ago | "Short sections of grade separated, divided highway that are not connected to a regional network of grade separated, divided highways should probably have the same classification as the highway they are part of. This may differ from the classification implied by AASHTO or FHWA (AASHTO/FHWA standards are only able to imply the classifications for OSM roads as they do not have any authority over OSM)." osm.wiki/United_States/Road_classification This edit and others like it will be promptly reverted. OSM classification is function based and does note necessarily follow government designations.
almost 5 years ago | Your edits will be reverted to trunk roads on. See: highway=* . "Note that highway=* distinguishes roads by function and importance rather by their physical characteristic and legal classification. Usually this things are highly correlated, but OSM is not obligated to copy official road classifications." Especially near uptown Charlotte you should not have less than about a mile of motorway interrupting a trunk road.
about 5 years ago | Thanks for adding the XCLT! I've been meaning to get around to it.
| 93612791 | about 5 years ago | Hello, I noticed you upgraded many primary roads in the Charlotte area to trunk roads; however, many do not fit the definition. The large majority of WT Harris Blvd, Albemarle Rd, University City Blvd, and at least half of Independence Expressway are not even partially grade separated. They all have many stop lights and have both business and neighborhood entrances directly on the road. Do you have a source for this, and are you local the area? OSM road classification:

about 5 years ago | I was categorizing these roads according to the definitions on highway=*. I was unware of the US specific categorizations on osm.wiki/United_States/Road_classification. Thank you! I will give it another look.
over 5 years ago | Thank you all for the discussion. I believe it could be helpful to add place=subdivision or even US versions/definitions.
| 91255294 | over 5 years ago | Planned subdivisions are very different from suburbs and neighborhoods. There is not yet a place=subdivision, and as such should forego a place marker (see apartment complex example on this page: landuse=residential).
|
over 5 years ago | A convention for subdivisions I've observed is to mark them as residential areas instead of the larger neighborhoods of a city/town to avoid confusion.
