Tiger coughed up a hairball?

Posted by MacDude72 on 16 February 2009 in English.

Saw something that doesn't match the Yahoo map, nor my experience one bit. There is a service road, or perhaps footpath that goes for a few miles near the spot I marked with this entry. It runs right through a baseball diamond, crosses some major roads (many of which I've driven hundreds of times, as it is on my route to work), and generally doesn't make any sense.

I looked it with map data on, and it appears to have been placed by TIGER. I'm WAY too new at this to argue with TIGER, so could someone else, who knows what can happen, maybe have a look?

The area is around Triton College and Gottlieb Hospital, in River Forest, IL USA.

Thanks!

TIGER data has lots of non-existent roads like this, just delete them.

Agreed. The most common TIGER mistakes are cases where the general topology is correct, but where the placement is totally off (sometimes by half a mile or more.) But there are plenty of cases where it shows streets that don't exist (any more?) or vice versa.

Sometimes it's so obvious that it's safe to correct even if you've never been there. But if you actually live in that place, don't doubt for a second and go for it.
