Barbados successfully sunken, #*@!+

Posted by Lars Vegas on 19 November 2008 in English.

Bloody, bloody hell.

While trying to draw a pretty long strip of beach on the east side of Barbados, I accidentally added a distracting point to the coastline. But that was harmless compared to the disaster that followed: When trying to delete the point, I deleted the whole coastline. Potlatch is now saving for about three hours and I can't undo my mistake.
Even worse, Osmarender already removed the coastline (and thus the whole landmass) from zoom levels Z12+. Now it's actually public.
I'm really stuck and clueless. I guess I keep my editor instance open all night and hope that tomorrow the saving will be finished so that I can undo the whole mess.

Bloody, bloody hell ...

Oops! I'm not sure what the protocol is here, but I'm sure someone can undo it for you... Maybe ask on IRC or the mailing list...

Phew, I undid it. After about 5 hours ... I just aborted the saving but for some reasons the undo didn't work for a long time. I kept getting messages from the Adobe flash player saying something about a script that massively slowed down the computer ... I kept clicking it away and away. Finally I got to the undo routine, but there were several coastlines and it took me some time to identify the right one (and undoing it once more).
I only hope that everything's back to normal now.
Note to myself: Take care when deleting something!

DO NOT undo your coastline edit. close potlatch or click the edit tab again. Others have fixed the coastline already.

sorry, didn't refresh the page. so you managed to do it, but I fixed the coastline to be smaller ways that are easier to manage. (Coastline can cope, Frederik and I designed it that way)

Thank you. I already noticed the smaller ways when I tried to find out how/why/where "others" fixed the coastline.

I should add something to let you ignore coastline ways, really. They're a pain in the ****, don't really have anything in common with the rest of the database, and are probably best left to those who understand them (who are invariably JOSM users).

Anyway, if Potlatch says "it's saving for three hours", it probably isn't. More likely the server has timed out and hasn't sent a response back.
