How to edit an OSM Diary

Posted by Kateregga1 on 13 December 2025 in English.

To edit an OpenStreetMap (OSM) diary entry, you must navigate to the specific post while logged into your account.

OpenStreetMap Diary

Steps to Edit Your OSM Diary

  • Log in to your account on OpenStreetMap.org.
  • Click on your username in the top right corner to go to your user profile.
  • Click the “New Diary Entry” link (usually located in the menu tab just below your username).
  • Find the specific entry you want to change and click on its title to open the full post.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the post text; you will see an “Edit this entry” button.
  • Click it to open the editor, make your changes, and hit Save.

Important Notes

  1. Deletion: There is no direct “Delete” button for diary entries. If you want to remove a post, the standard practice is to edit the entry, delete all the text (replacing it with something like “Post deleted”), and save it.
  2. Formatting: The diary uses Markdown for formatting. You cannot use rich text (like in Word), so you will need to use specific characters for bolding, links, and images.
  3. Images: You cannot upload images directly to the diary. You must upload them to an external site (or the OSM Wiki) first and then link to them using Markdown:
