The State of the Map (SOTM) conference in Nairobi gave me a great opportunity and motivation. From that experience, I realized that even a small contribution can create a huge impact. Since attending SOTM Nairobi, I have amplified my involvement in mapping contributing More than one million edits before attending SOTM Manila.

SOTM Manila

After the Nairobi conference, I was deeply inspired to make an even greater difference through mapping. I became more active in Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) projects, trained others to map, and became an advocate for bringing more people onto the OpenStreetMap (OSM) platform. I also participated in several projects in Rwanda, such as tree planting and tree mapping using EveryDoor which is aimed at promoting climate resilience and slope stabilization. Also , I engaged in mapping urban green spaces to support environmental sustainability, Mapping of Health Facilities in Rwanda etc.

Attending the SOTM Manila conference was another life-changing experience filled with inspiration and impact. I participated in several sessions and breakout discussions, but one of the most remarkable moments was the session led by Benedicta Banful Ohene-Amadi titled “Beyond the Binary: Gender, Language, and Representation in Open Mapping.” It was an eye-opening discussion that emphasized gender inclusion in mapping. As a woman, I felt proud and motivated to contribute more and to serve as a foundation for inclusive open mapping. I left that session feeling empowered and determined to continue making a meaningful impact. Gender

The conference was well-integrated and full of learning opportunities. I had the chance to meet new friends, share experiences, and explore new cultures. The State of the Map Manila also offered a memorable travel experience from visiting iconic sites in the Philippines to exploring their museums, learning about their history, tasting local food, and understanding their transportation and way of life. The entire experience was enriching and unforgettable.

Food I am sincerely grateful to the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) for sponsoring me and to Lorenzo for his continuous guidance from flight arrangements to every detail that made this journey successful. My heartfelt thanks go to Geoffrey Kateregga, not only my OSM mentor but also a kind and inspiring father figure in the community. I also appreciate Hajar El Ouafi for the encouragement, gifts, and unwavering support your motivation has become a responsibility I gladly carry forward to continue creating positive impact. To my Community, EcoMappers, OpenStreetMap Rwanda, you are a great team and special thanks to Kingsley Chika CHUKWU for his leadership, training, and constant motivation that help our community grow stronger and make greater contributions.

Finally, I am deeply moved by Aranlie’s words: “If you want to go faster, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” I have truly experienced this through teamwork and collaboration, which have allowed me to go far in my journey of mapping and community engagement. Thank you, Aranlie, for being a wonderful guide taking us around the Philippines, teaching us their history and culture, and making the experience so fun and memorable. SOTM This journey from SOTM Nairobi to SOTM Manila has not only broadened my skills but also strengthened my passion for open mapping, inclusion, and community growth. It is an experience I will forever cherish and I look forward to more opportunities to learn and make an even greater impact. Manila
