Using a Drawing Tablet for Editing in JOSM
Posted by JuanElDemografo on 16 September 2025 in English.I’ve been editing OSM for about nine months and have been a heavy JOSM armchair editor for about eight months. Recently, I started using a stylus for entering geometry and it’s increased my stamina tremendously. I’ve been able to create hundreds even thousands of nodes per day without feeling any signs of repetitive strain injuries cropping up in my hand.

Are you using a drawing tablet with display?

No, mine is an old-fashioned Wacom Intuos. I’ve been using it to take notes for years now so I’m used to the disconnect between the tablet and the screen. The cursor on screen provides enough feedback for fine movements.

While I typically do 99% of my mapping these days on a mobile device with a pen/stylus, I’ve long (as in decades) switched to using track balls on desktops to avoid having to use mice.
