When we started our CWTS++ class, we were given tasks that we will map our neighborhood by the end of the semester. But before we started mapping our neighborhood there were applications that our instructor introduced to us that can help us to map our neighborhood in easily. Fieldpaper is the first application that we used, fieldpaper is a web-based tool for creating a map atlas for any place in the world that you want to print. This tool helps me a lot when I mapped my neighborhood because there were many houses, building, apartment, and convenience stores that are not specified in the fieldpaper. When I started walking around my area I discovered many buildings and houses that were not specified in the fieldpaper, so I collected all the information of the buildings and houses including the streets and the house number. After that I’ve collected all the data then I will put it in my fieldpaper. And also I will transfer all the data I’ve collected in the Openstreet map. Openstreet map is the second application that we used, its looks like google maps but the main difference between these two applications is that every edit you make to Openstreetmap is owned by you and the community, while every change you make to Google Maps will be owned by Google. Mapillary is the third application that we used, Mapillary is a collaborative street-level imagery platform for extracting map data at scale using computer vision. Images from any device are combined into a visualization of the world to generate data for improving maps, developing cities, and progressing the automotive industry. Mapillary’s tools enable anyone to collect, share, and use street-level images. I’ve use this application to capture my neighborhood and after I capture all the streets that are included in my fieldpaper, I will upload the pictures in Mapillary, many people can see it and can use it as a guide. Even though my contribution is not to much atleast I tried my best to help others and my neighborhood by the use of different applications that are very useful when I mapped my neighborhood.
