Random pub meet-up in Angel

Last night's random pub meet-up was on a Tuesday, and Tuesday night means QUIZ NIGHT!

We were in 'The Island Queen' pub in Angel (map). Which was a little more off the beaten track than I had expected, hidden away down some very quiet residential streets. Matt tested the cloudmade pedestrian routing, by walking to the pub (3.6km apparently) in the rain!

The pub was actually a recommendation from my dad, and it also scored high on fancyapint.com. Sure enough it had good fuddy-duddy crudentials. A fine ale selection, genuine olde decor, and no loud music. It didn't have enough seats for all of us even though we'd bagged the biggest table in the place, but then there was about 15 of us. Another great turn out, and though I hadn't particularly noticed at the time, we had five females present. Five! Unheard of.

We had an appearance from Morwen and also the Burgessmeister.

User:Blumpsy lives nearby, and we chatted about his spectacular progress mapping all the buildings across an increasing area of Islington. We had more OSM calendars and London posters to give away. I prompted people to try and spot the glaring error on the London posters. It is a glaring error, but strangely people just don't notice it.

And then it was the quiz. The above question really did come up, and actually took us a little while to figure it out. If it'd been a question about some obscure suburban London streets we might've faired better. But we got the right answer, no thanks to Francine and Fabiana, who should've known this (That's a clue by the way)

Besides that, the questions were not mapping related, and so we actually had a few conversations about things other than maps. All very strange. We didn't manage to win anything despite having a massive team

Someone was talking about the possibility of a Milton Keynes mapping party. In fact now that the weather is warming up, and spring is round the corner, we're definately thinking of drawing cake diagrams again. As if to warn us off this, it was chucking down with rain last night, and I got absolutely soaked on the way home despite having an umbrella.

The next London meet-up will be on a Tuesday again, Tue 17th March. Haven't decided the pub yet. It will be somewhere very central, but of a more westerly persuasion. The 'London/Winter 2008-9 Random Pub Meetup' wiki page will have the details shorty.

Wow, the Islington buildings map looks amazing.

I'm setting the plans for my Easter return to London ( http://www.livingwithdragons.com/2009/02/cycling-home ), and quite like the idea of making it back in time to join an OSM pub meet.
Is that more likely to be on Thursday 26th, rather than the Tuesday/Wednesday of that week?

Which week d'you mean exactly? My rough plan was Tuesday 17th March and Thursday 26th March, that's either side of (but not *too* close to) the API rollover weekend.

Then after, for the week before Easter weekend, I was thinking maybe Tuesday 7th April. Wed 8th there's a North Surrey meet-up.
