Which editor do you use? Potlatch, Merkaartor or Josm?

(Hint: read the OSM-wiki for information how to use the editors!)

I use the Potlach editor. The edit is still there when I open the editor again, but said "editing" all the time. Update: I checked again and it says "Saved at ...13 May 2009 20:45". So I guess it worked and I have to wait until it shows in the main map.

You can also check at http://informationfreeway.org/ which is usually quickly updated.

I had the same problem. I couldn't figure out how to 'Save'. It turned out that Potlatch saves automatically but the (still editing) stays for a while. It probably works by timing out since there's no explicit save operation. Lately the Mapnik layer has not been updating anything I've done, but Osmarender is, so I know things are working.

Perhaps you should read at least the basics in the documentation before starting to use a tool you've never used before. The first section of "getting started", even above the list of contents, tells you "Changes are written directly to the OSM database, but you will not see them on the Slippy map until it updates, currently every week. Other options are available if you want to see your work rendered immediately." (or at least it used to, I'm going to about to change it to make it clearer that every change is saved immediately).
