I just completed a test with outdoor-gps. It's on the wiki-page: osm.wiki/index.php/Making_Tracks_with_Homebrew-ware#Free_of_Charge
It performs beautifully with a VGA PDA (HP 4700HX), but what's even nicer: In the wiki it sais to replace "rtept" with "wpt" in gpx file, but that's no longer necessary! So if anyone is in the habit of updating the osm wiki-pages then by all means, change it!

To be honoust there is another possibility here: both rtept and wpt were absent in the gpx-file, therefor maybe that particalar tag is just not used in my test, but also a hiking trail I traced was, unedited, exepted by osm, so Outdoor GPS looks like an okay tool to me, if it wasn't for the fact that you cannot mark places with poi's. That drawback is so big, that I might just revert to osm-tracker and exept the fact the map shows no trace on the screen.
