A few months ago I tried to get a GPS trace of the Bratsbergbanen railway ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bratsbergbanen) between Notodden and Skien (in Norway). I didn't switch on the GPS until I had boarded the train, which was a bad idea. Due to the poor reception inside the train the GPS couldn't get a position fix.
On the norwegian OSM-mailing list I got a tip that the GPS would propaby be able to keep the satellite lock if I switched it on before entering the train. A few weeks I got the opportunity to try this. This time I got a good track from Notodden to Skien which I have used to update to OSM data.
During this I discoved a somewhat annoying feature of my GPS (Garmin 60CSx). It will continue to log trackpoints in a straight line when losing satellite reception. This means that it's very hard to locate short tunnels or the start of longer tunnels in the tracklog (unless I managed to hit the mark-button in time). There appears to be no way to disable this feature.
