Very good units - there has been a recent firmware update ( Nov 09 ) taking the unit to version 3.20 so that might be worth checking out - see the garmin website for details.
The Cloudmade .img files are great especially when you are travelling, check them out -
I cache at 1 point / second. a day of logging creates files of 2-3Mb, trivial file size on a 1/2/4 Mb micro SD card.
@Bri: I bought the unit through the Amazon link from the Openstreetmap site. I'm pleased to report the software version of the unit is already 3.20 and the GPS software is version 2.90. I got the 2Gb micro SD card and you're right... it can store a lot of tracks!
I'm getting into it now and have a good set of tracks and accompanying photos beginning to accumulate. I really like Josm for editing.

I just got an eTrex Legend HCx last week and it's fantastic for walking or cycling with an OSM map on it.
