And you may need clarify the source data to import and ensure the license of the source data is compatible with OSM (open data license or public domain)

When your import plan have approved by the community and followed import guidelines, you can use conflation plugin of JOSM to conflate your orphaned untagged node with your imported objects, in this case, buildings, as part of building nodes to keep these nodes without creating redundant nodes
Thank you

@Derek Morr
OSM is not your own site, please respect any other mappers, you have no justification or legitimate reason to ask me to stop mapping driveways or other vaild objects that meet "on the ground" rule of OSM. What your claim of "No use case" or nothing, you didn't provide the evidence of why mapping driveways just some sort of nonsense or invaild objects. Just be really existence and verifiable is already enough to mapping on OSM like all other real geographic information on OSM.

There are many problems with OSM in the San Diego area need to be fixed, and there are lack of many accurate geographic infornation mapped, but these sitation is not the rationale to ask me stop mapping of driveways.

You should focus on your own contributions, include missing addresses, business information, sidewalks, turning restrictions that you mentioned, stop the repeated comment which have already replied by me. I have my own way to contributions on OSM, please respect me.

Map is not about aesthetic, but provides accurate geographic information, in fact, there are many objects which OSM standard layers doesn't to renders (include railway switches, railway signals, building:part=* objects, water wells, or more), if the map have enough detailed geographic information, clutter is inevitable, and anyone if consider driveways or someone type of objects feel clutter which hard to use, they can use or design the map rendering engine to not to render such objects, when editing, use object filter or download only certain kind of objects to avoid clutter.

Thank to the high resolution of aerial imagery and precisely position in the USA, there are no concern of misaligned between different kinds of objects which happen frequent in other countries (e.g. building that span over the roads even water areas), beside driveways mapping, I have done a lot of work to realign the road as some roads even being offset too far that exceed roadside in the aerial imagery, or other aligning issues.

@Derek Morr
What is your definition of "useful"? It is the subject sense as the term "useful" have multiple definition and every person have different sense of how the online information is useful or not. Your feel of not useful is not mean it is objective not useful.

To determine what useful or not, please think the core question:Why we need have the such thing as map? Map is the tool to provide the accurate geographic information, include driveway, in the sense, mapping driveways or anything exist in ground is useful:provide the real geographic information

This thought answer the question of "why you think adding driveways to unmapped houses is useful"?

It's simple:It is the real geographic information, represent the existence in reality, if mapping trees, ponds, swimming pools, walls, or other objects existed you may feel not useful, it is still useful by providing the accurate geographic information represent the reality, this core thought also meet "on the ground" principles of OSM

Regarding on your another question:driveway that intersect on house you added and gave you the validation error, the solution also simple:Either dragging the nodes of driveway out of building you added, or just ignore such warning if you feel too much burden to you as the driveway not far exceed into building, such "validation error" won't prevent you from upload your work of adding houses that intersect with driveways, and I can help fix the intersect between driveways and houses.(I mapped them according to the aerial imagerys, so where driveway terminates I can clearly know)

Example of the driveways were mapped at the area which no any or little buildings are mapped as now

And I have some additional words:

I disagree with saying of
"adding driveways that do not connect to a building merely because building is not mapped or ever existed is not what "silly" or
"chuckle". Driveway is a vaild objects showed on the map, unlike any mapping error or bad import (object with useless or strange tags don't provide useful information; untagged orphaned nodes due to mapping or upload error; duplicate objects; objects that not exist in reality...) make the objects invaild and in such manner mapper can free to remove them or asking original mapper about the mapping error issues.

If you have other comment or opinion, please feel free to raise an issue on community.openstreetmap.org

OK I agree

If any editor uses iD to avoid inconvenient at mapping that map seem clogging, please click "Map Data", then see "Map Features" section, untick
"Service Roads" or other kind of object you want to avoid the issue of inconvenient of mapping or worrying of distrubing other objects.

If you use JOSM, you can download only certain type of objects via Overpass dialog, or use object filter.

osm.wiki/Overpass_API/Sparse_Editing

Incomplete map data coverage on OSM is common as there are too many vaild geographic features not mapped yet. Showing only driveways only and nothing else mapped is merely of incomplete data but not a mere reason to remove someone's vaild work as long as not violate the rule of OSM and existed in reality

169453826 5 months ago

You are just repeating the nonsense and I have a vaild reason to oppose your statement

I don't have such thing as "adding driveways to nowhere", All information are according on the aerial Imagery such as Bing or Mapbox. If you don't believe authenticity of the aerial imagery and other map with similar data, you can take an on field survey to confirm the existence these driveways, and it is one kind of vaild object I have been said

Hence, your statement of "does not add value to the map" is make no sense. There is no any rationale to ask me stop adding them or stop reverting your edits that disresepct of other mapper(s). If I must say what is vandalizing the map, to remove the vaild object(s) without legitimate rationale is one kind of vandalizing .

Please read

osm.wiki/w/index.php?title=Tag:service%3Ddriveway

It is a vaild type of geographic features and All of my driveways added to OSM is really exist in the reality, can validated by any aerial image, include Bing or Mapbox, hence, statement you said "Adding driveways to no where is map vandalism" is make no sense to me

Please respect other mappers. Just feel clogged or unnecessary is not the vaild rationale for remove/ask other not to map any vaild geographic features.

169453826 5 months ago

Individual driveways are vaild objects, so called "visual clutter and noise."is just your subjevtive feel. If an area have detailed mapping, clutter is inevitable. To avoid clutter on the map you editing, please use object filter of editor you use to hide certain (or showing only certain ) type of objects

As the object meet "on the ground" rule of OSM and it mapped on license compatible on map, driveways should be allowed to added on OSM

There are no justified reason to ask me to stop adding or not to revert your deletion of my work

There are more than 8 million objects tagged with service=driveway in United States

Driveway is the vaild type of object on OSM, you should respect anything mapped by other mappers. If you have no vaild reasons to remove something (e.g. duplicate;blantant graffile;features are no longer exist on reality), you shouldn't to remove anything mapped by other mappers. As obeying the principle of OSM, anyone can free to add anything on the ground while able to have verification of existence in reality, e.g. confirmed by the aerial images

168693578 5 months ago

Simple saying "unnecessary" is or "driveways to not improve navigation or add clarity" not a legitimate and enough reason of why such objects should not be mapped on osm.

Driveway mapping is a vaild and legitimate type of object as it can see from areial imagerys, even on grounds levels which can be seen publicly from the roads or streets, meet the pricinple of "on the ground", which stand as important principle of OSM.

168693578 5 months ago

No, just saying "unnecessary" is not enough to clarify of why you think individual driveways for a residential houses or other buildings/premises should not be added to osm. There are over 8 million objects tagged with service=driveway in U.S. alone. Driveways mapping is a vaild geographic features.

To avoid the clutter map when you edit, you should use filter/hide features to hide or showing only certain type of map object, or if you use JOSM, you can use object filter or using overpass to download only certain type of map objects. Avoid clutter maps should not be a solely rationale to remove something vaild map objects.

168693578 5 months ago

Please respect other mappers. If you need to remove something include driveways, please provide your rationale, but in the driveway mapped on OSM, there are not have any rationales to remove as it is one of vaild geographic features as it can see from the aerial imagery or seen from the public streets.

Driveways in the U.S. are used by over 8 millions features, please do your own research of usage of driveways, such like the following area like
