| First area mapping from survey | I tend to use the layer = -1 on all waterways, plus bridge layer=1. I originally got the idea from one of the german diary entries. It doesn’t affect the rendering, or routing for waterways. If a highway crosses a stream or river and it they don’t have different levels then it can affect the routing checking for highways though. I suppose it should be just layer = -1 for under the bridge, maybe I have just been lazy. I see from the map features page there is a disused= yes tag I use barrier=wall for ruins, it renders really well I did loch leven castle that way osm.org/?lat=56.200142&lon=-3.390579&zoom=18&layers=M |

| First area mapping from survey | Looks really good, well done. Depending on how you want it to look you could also consider barrier = hedge and leisure = track this last one may require a multipolygon There is a nice example of Queens park in Glasgow that was mapped by a mapping party a while ago. osm.org/?lat=55.8312&lon=-4.26877&zoom=17&layers=M Streams are always difficult because they change. In JOSM there is a validation tool which would point out that the stream should have layer=-1 and the bridges, layer=1 Do you use JOSM? I think you did a really good job, I hope that you enjoyed doing it |

| 450,000 | I believe it is 5-10% depending on the weather but I think it is a good indication of recognition. |

| Copying from OS Locator | If we wait till there is someone that can visit each location, the map will not be completed in the next 20 years. If we have a relatively complete data set where we are sending information back to OS to correct there data then that is benificial. If we have a relatively complete data set then we can use that to lobby councils and government for their data sets with the "official list of road names'. I know that there are more mistakes with the Gaelic names. We will be able to correct them even if historically some places in scotland have 15 individual names for the same place. There is much more to the map than road names, the road map is only the skeleton for the rest of the data. |

| Somalia maps campaign on the Independent | Thanks for the comments, Google has some satellite imagery for map maker and I used that to edit their map but my edits were deleted because they didn't contain an address ! The three main camps in Daadab can be seen on the google satellite view but we don't know what or who is there. Thanks Andrew for the link, I will look a that shortly Cheers Bob |

| Peebles Mapping party | Hi, You are of course completely correct, the golf course is indeed 'tagged to render'. I have been watching the proposals for golf courses for some time, including the 2008 proposal you mentioned. I have also seen some really nice renderings. I will happily change the tags to the correct ones, once the proposals have been accepted and entered into mapnik default map style. The present work it there to show what we can do by tracing and then by having a mapping party rather than just having a mapping party. The present map will be in a local news article, which may in turn, inspire some local mappers in that area. I am looking forward to the ability to render golf courses properly tagged, because we have 15 golf courses in Edinburgh. If we can map them all it will get the golf community talking and perhaps inspired to join in. Until that time, I will have to just cheat a little. please forgive me |
