My previous try to fix germanys bigges continous wood turned out to be more destruction than fixing. It was reverted by user rrissek.
It created some white tiles, and fixed others that were white before, giving a rather disappointing total.
I think I now understood the way it works - finally. The Harz outline has to go through every tile inside, and it is not enough if a segment goes throug the tile (I know, there are no real segments any more, but you know what I mean...). There has to be a node.
I think it was not very nice to modify the Harz itself (it has 473 nodes even without my fix). So my current try is based on new way inside the Harz, tagged as natural:wood. It has a node in every zoom 12 tile inside the harz, and should finally work. It may take some time to get rendered, because the T@H server is overburdoned right now.
Despite this, I uploaded about 20 gpx files that I missed until now, and traced the viallages around Wernigerode using Landsat images, tagging them landuse:residential.

Yippie! Now it works, mostly.
Two white suqares remain, one of them is still rendering. The last white square is Clausthal-Zellerfeld. It's a tricky multipolygon thing. I guess I'm nout guilty for that, since I did not touch it, only added a new polygon... but anyway, I'll try to fix it.
Next problem are the cuts. During my previous try, the cuts appeared as 1 or 2 pixel white line. Now I made some efforts to make them 0 pixel wide, and they are much wider than ever. Currently working on it...

Ok then, I think that's it. This time I really fixed it and we just have to wait for all tiles to re-render. They are already in the queue. It's still the dirty old hack from the first try, slightly improved, but hey, who cares?

Right now, osmarender doesn't show the forest at all, while it's great in Mapnik.

Well, right now it is not shown for level 1..11.
Levels 12..17 are fine. Right after my fix, i requested a rendering for every zoom 12 tileset, and it worked, and I also rendered some level 8 tilesets and uploaded them, they were also fine.
Some days later, they were replaced with wood-less tilesets. I guess someone changed the rendering rules so that woods shall not be drawn any more for lowzoom tiles. Several smaller woods are now invisible, too.
After I all, i would say this is a whole new problem and has nothing to do with the original "bug".

My previous post was about osmarender. And now some other (more or less) interesting details about mapnik:
