I'm having similar issues with NE2 right now, except he keeps reverting it to bad data and is not cooperative in coming to the table to discuss the issue, and comes off as nothing short of a monster online.

Use relations for routes; these have proposed tags available.

I'm not sure any such balance needs to be found with Microsoft, given that they've only been going down the destructive path I've described for 35 years. "He's not a bad guy, he's stopped raping people. Never mind he's spent the better part of four decades forcibly penetrating people, that's no indication that he's going to keep doing that!"

That hasn't stopped Microsoft from violating open source licenses in the past; they have violated the GPL, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't violate our license. I think they're kidding themselves if they think peer approval of their projct is going to be automatic or easy.

@lyx: The problem is this is Microsoft's classic "embrace and extend" tactic. They're using us as a publicity stunt without giving anything back to the community, essentially.

You might graduate to JOSM and take a look at the various WMS sources available from the USGS and the Navy.

I generally distinguish between multiuse paths (highway=path) and cycleways (highway=cycleway) by whether or not it's striped for vehicular travel, but closed to motorists. MUPs aren't striped, cycleways are. I would also tend to include MUPs that have a high volume of cyclists as a cycleway.

FK270673: Are we trying to make a map that is accurate, or a map that looks like other maps? If the former is the goal, then tagging an indian reservation like a nature reserve instead of like other administrative boundary fails to properly reflect just how much authority and autonomy the region has (and equates Indians to wildlife by extension, which I personally find condescending). Plus, there's quite a few tribes out there that do fulfill the administrative duties of a state or country such as what the Bureau of Indian Affairs refers to as the "five civilized tribes."

I think I like the adminstrative tag better, since that better illustrates the degree of autonomy.

Second Life is planar, not spheroid, so rendering it as a spheroid would introduce distortion.

As others have suggested, Milestones are already in live use.

The map in question isn't Google's map, just uses Google's slippymap as far as I can tell.

Fabi2: There's something to be said for legal requirements and encouraging others to share the road, too. Probably a Bad Thing™ to encourage people to do something so stupid as driving against traffic, even if it is a bicycle.

In general, yes, that's a good starting point. Depending on local conditions, a road may rank higher or lower.

Unzip the gmapsupp
Put the resulting .img on your Garmin or an SD card in the Garmin folder.
You should now be able to select your add-on map from the map setup screen on your Garmin.

highway = path (Multi-use path, most park paths, etc)

highway = cycleway (Way is primarily used by cyclists and is constructed primarily for their benefit, such as the Springwater Corridor, I205 Greenway, etc)

highway = footway (Sidewalk or very narrow path, something two bicycles couldn't pass each other in opposite directions on if they're allowed at all, since the tag implies bicycle=no by default)

highway = track is a dirt road and may or may not be open to motor vehicles.

The Rose Garden could be an indoor or an outdoor arena. building=yes there would make it more obvious that it's an indoor arena. If it looks like any other building, well, that's a rendering issue, not a tagging one.
