| Local Bus routes for Huntsville, Alabama | Please create a new relation for a new bus route as you have hijacked a bus route from another guy ;-) I have created a new relation just for you: Please use this link above if you want to continue with this bus line #10. It may take one or two minutes to zoom in, but it gives you a perfect overview about the current bus route #10. |

| Ranting about rendering |
... a clever algorithm tries to only render those tiles that are necessary ... That's what I wanted to say |
|
| Ranting about rendering | The mapnik renderer has a secret priority list. If you made many edits within a special area, it will take some hours to update the map. If you just made one or two small edits, it may take weeks until the map gets updated. The Osmarenderer also has a priority list. If there are many edits, Osmarender will update automatically. If you just made one or two small edits, you have to start the rendering process manually. Look at http://www.informationfreeway.org
It is also possible to update the Mapnik renderer manually by adding "/dirty" to the image's URL. |

| Blindly copying from GPS traces | All streets in the United States are copied from a government database (TIGER). It is still a lot of hard work to clean up TIGER data, because the TIGER classification doesn't fit to the OSM classification. State routes usually have a higher classification (secondary or tertiary, depending whether it has a two/three-digit or four-digit number) and a road number (=ref). There are a lot of driveways to single homes which should be downgraded to service roads. There are a lot of 4WD trails which should be downgraded to tracks. There are a lot of "no trespassing" signs which should be mentioned in the map (access=no or access=private). Furthermore, we would like to include pavement (surface) and speed limits (maxspeed) for each street in the United States. The TIGER database (with all its errors) is just a starting point in order to get the US covered as soon as possible. It has many useful features (e.g. ZIP postcode and spelled street names), but also many lacking features that need to be added by active mappers. |

| Named footpaths | Stairs are rendered with their name, of course. |

| Mentor | You are living in Northern India, so it is a good idea to look at the India tagging guidelines in the Wiki: |
|

| Ruining hours of works by other mappers seems fine | Please describe WHO does WHICH automated edits with two or three typical examples, so we can take a look at the errors. Bots like woodpeck or xybot need a feedback in order to improve their rules. |

| Why can't I delete my own diary entries? | You can edit your old diary entries, maybe even the whole text. |
|
| NEW TO OPEN STREET MAP EDIT | Your area is just covered by satellite images, not by aerial ímages, like 90% of world surface. Satellite images are just visible in the lowest zoom level. With JOSM, you can use other aerial images as backgrund for tracing. |

| north and south beaverpond drive | Dear Nancy, we always appreciate the help of local mappers, especially in the US, because our map is based on misaligned government data (TIGER). User bryantw from Mount Vernon has moved the TIGER mess to the right place. You are welcome to cut any street if necessary:
The Potlatch Primer is a very good introduction for beginners. Yours, FK270673 |

| Resignation in protest | On the one hand, I can completely understand your anger about a licence which was declared by some experts and which is difficult to understand. You may declare all YOUR edits as public domain like many other editors have done it before, so nobody can create a COPYRIGHT on them. On the other hand, it doen't make sense to remove a very small part of the worldwide map. That is rather a damage for local residents and friends than for the OSM Foundation in London. Your parts of Tennessee River have been deleted and merged with other parts of Tennessee River, so they are not your unique edits any more. We are not removing parts of the map in order to tease the OSM foundation (as they would not even recognize it), but we are creating maps in order to show that independent mappers can do better. |

| Rendering problems | The rendering process starts if there are enough new points within this area.

| Route erstellen ???? | Mit Openstreetmap kann man auch eine Reiseroute erstellen, dazu braucht man allerdings Papier und Bleistift. Eine automatische Routenberechnung innerhalb Europas gibt es beispielsweise bei www.openrouteservice.org |

| Geo Game | This manual needs extension: You have to move the map to the capital and than zoom in ...
|
|
| Geo Game | It's a lame game which still needs a lot of action. It was easy to find Tokyo on the map, but it was impossible to turn to the second city. |

| University campus/buildings? | > Should buildings be traced as areas or marked as points of interest? If possible, they should be marked as areas (building=yes, name=XYZ).
> What about the campus as a whole? Should be marked as area (amenity=university, name=AAU). > What about universities in urban areas where there may not be a distinct campus, just buildings sprinkled around in an area? Should be marked as building (amenity=university, building=yes, name=XYZ). osm.org/?lat=48.14804&lon=11.57291&zoom=17&layers=B000FTF
If one department is big enough to cover a little area, it my get its own little campus:
> What tags are suggested to identify a university building? amenity=university, building=yes, name=XYZ > Should the tags indicate what specific academic and/or administrative department(s) reside in the building? Academic departments are often moving, so it makes sense to use the name of the building (e.g. N1) osm.org/?lat=48.15038&lon=11.56847&zoom=17&layers=B000FTF Fast food amenities should be tagged separately. > If there are conventions being used out there, please add them to the wiki page! Sorry, we are rather looking for good examples than reading conventions. It's your turn to describe how a good example looks like. We don't follow simple instructions, we compete to create best solutions ;-) http://www.bestofosm.org/?type=mapnik&lon=-80.27799&lat=36.13376&zoom=17 Yours, FK270673 |
