I am spending way too much time on this! After some encouragement by other OSM contributors, I started to verify the map data of the area I live/work in. While doing so, it occured to me that there must be some way to map/tag something like an underpass to make the renderer draw it correctly. To my surprise, I did not find much on this topic in my favorite wiki pages (Map features and Proposed features) and a quick search revealed only some old email discussion (see http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2006-January/002215.html). I guess I somehow have to find out if the elevated tag mentioned there is really the way to go or if there is some other way to map multiple road levels.

My 1st trace: Traced the major part of Kelmis's streets today with my GPS-PDA hooked on my motocycle.
Hi folks,
Just uploaded my first track, edited the data but how do I save the changes?
Which Icon has to be clicked?
Any help appreciated. Thanks for a great initiative!

Hi,
Soweit so gut.
http://www.routeconverter.de/index_de.html
Keep on mapping ;-)

I've learned a lot in the last week. I've become interested (obsessed?) with cleaning up the lowzoom levels. It appears that the addition of the captionless layer is a relatively recent change, and therefore most of it is missing. The main "tile" layer has been around a while, but as tiles in the lowzoom layers are rebuilt, they are pulling in a lot of garbage from the missing areas in the captionless layer. I understand that this will fix itself over time, but at the way things look, that could be years. It needs a boost.
The primary problem with the lowzoom builds is that when a tile is missing, the server returns a tile with "unknown type" on it. This is a good thing for the server to do when it has no other information, but in this extended transition period it makes for ugly maps.
The component tiles are in the z12 build request queue, but there are probably hundreds of thousands of them in there (just guessing). In the mean time, almost anything is better than the unknown tiles. I have started copying some land tiles from the main tile layer into the captionless layer, to fill in as a stop-gap. Yes, they will have little captions scrunched down, but it really is better than nothing. As long as the tiles are still in the request queue, they will get properly fixed later. I think it makes a good interim solution.
The problem is that there are sooooo many tiles. The total possible tiles in 17 zoom levels is 68 billion. Most of those are sea, which won't need anything smaller than z12 and rarely below z8. Even without that, there are about 3 million land tiles at z12, and I think about 10000 at z8. That's a lot of tiles to update. Fortunately most of Greenland and Siberia don't need anything more than blank land.
Hi all I tried to insert the street I am living in (Belgium) but what I did yesterday evening is not visible in the view mode. However I can see the streets in the Edit mode.
Any tips, suggestions

I used my bike on this hot day to map the cyckling path between Sønderborg and Ulkebøl. The Later town is not in OSM yet, the arae looks like a part of Sønderborg.
Today, I've learned, there's an mapping app for the open-source cellphone OpenMoko Freerunner, using the OSM data: http://www.tangogps.org/gps/cat/News
It's able to fetch missing map data in the background. They've a Youtube video, too: http://www.tangogps.org/gps/articles/5-Video.html#extended.
The software also runs on the EEE PC.
I can't wait getting my Freerunner... ;-)
Albany Creek, Bridgman Downs, and Carseldine have some more roads added.
On a cycling trip Karlsruhe - Bretten - Maulbronn (Abbey, UNESCO - World Heritage Site) - Königsbach - Karlsruhe some more cycleways have been found and mapped. It was a nice 90km journey with some friends (and therefore little possibility to map more than the road and a very few things around). We had everything between sun and heavy rain and also a lot of deep mud on one highway=track, tracktype=grade1 road. The bicycles have still to be cleaned... :-(
Just did most of the residential roads in Parkinson.
Mift!
Added/fixed a bunch of roads in Cleveland.
Filled in a bunch of residential roads at Calamvale.
Did some roads at Inala.
Just finished adding most of the residential streets to the suburbs of Mount Ommaney, Westlake, Riverhills, Jamboree Heights, Sumner, and Middle Park.
I use a Garmin device. While tracing streets and paths, I usually mark specific points (crossroads, ...) as waypoints. When I'm home again, I use Garmim Mapsource to transfer my recordings to GPX files and upload them to OSM. But now, Waypoints are eliminated in the Potlatch display. I only see my tracks in Potlatch, while my waypoints won't show up in Potlatch. Why is this? I need my waypoints in order to assign street names correctly, etc...
