a) Habe seit Tagen keine Karten-Updates mehr gesehen.

Could not help to get out in the nice weather and map this completely insignificant stream, called Pillebach. I don't have gumboots, but taking a point here and there and then connecting them, taking into account the conditions set by the surroundings, should have resulted in a pretty accurate map entry.

Was browsing eBay noticed that there are allot of neat multi functional GPS devices nowadays. I was wondering which one would be most recommended for carrying around when logging with a bulkier LCD display device is not desired. Also thought, would be a greatly ->cheaper<- way of capturing tracks during extreme activities. Activities such as mountain biking, dirt biking, quad riding or some other activity where a conventional costly LCD display model maybe be broken. Guess I'm just gonna have to buy one and and try it.

Hallo,

Brisbane Mappers,

I'm working on a hypothesis that there is a fairly consistent "landslip" in the high-resolution (zoom 17) Yahoo imagery in western Brisbane. If we can pin down the magnitude of the slip, we can then systematically apply a reverse correction whenever we map new areas from the imagery.

The hypothesis goes like this. If you look at the longitudes across western Brisbane, take the following values A, B1 and B2.

--- A --- ... --- B1 - B2 ---

Where
A = 152.866 E (west Redbank)
B1 = 152.965 E
B2 = 152.972 E (Inala, west Indooroopilly, Mitchelton, Strathpine)

West of A and east of B2, the imagery alignment seems fine (to within a handful of pixels, as compared to GPS trace logs).

Between A and B1 is the north-south "slip zone" of about one street width (fence to fence, maybe 20 metres) - i.e. the imagery is ~20m north of where it "should" be.

B1-B2 seems to be where the "fault line" lies - there seems to be a smooth graduation between the slip area to the west of B1 and the correct area to the east of B2.

I haven't worked out where the equivalent fault line area is through A, but we will probably find out where A1 and A2 is in due time.

More observations are of course desirable as I like to be proven right. (-:

Lat/Lon are of B1/B2 through Indooroopilly.

All things going well, the "first light" GPS trace from my new i-gotU GT-100 GPS logger will be online shortly @ @morb_au/traces/123411. Here's the info page: http://www.ja-gps.com.au/i-gotu-live-travel-blog-master.html

The gizmo is a "matchbox" GPS puck which can run as either a connected USB NMEA terminal or a disconnected GPS logger (can store just over 16,000 trackpoints, i.e. 4.5 hours at 1 second intervals - and yes, the memory fills up before the charge runs out).

I haven't really seen GPS loggers at anywhere near AU$79 before, so it was a fairly compelling purchase for me. If it all pans out as promised, it also means I don't have to drag around a bulky GPS terminal "on the road" any more. Just this thing and a digital camera.

I took it for a test drive in Brisbane around three newly developed areas that you won't find on the Yahoo imagery: Waterline in Bulimba; the Morrisey St overpass (North-South Bypass / Clem Jones Tunnel Ipswich Road portal construction precinct); and the Horace St exit overpass (NSBT again, this time the Lutwyche Rd portal construction).

Lat/Lon is for Waterline.

Having been working on a council list of rubbish collection days (which should be a fairly complete list of street names), I've concluded that EN5 (Barnet) is now complete. The last few streets were surveyed just as the sun was setting last night. Openstreetmap now includes Elwood Close, which doesn't appear on any other map that I've found, and was found to be accessed through an alleyway underneath a building, and not at all obvious from aerial photography, or even street signs. I have a feeling that it's not even an council adopted street (lacking a standard street sign, or even a proper access from the road).

It was kind of fun doing the detective work, and asking people on the street where they think these streets might be, and finally crossing them off my list of streets to map.

Of course, there's always lots of micromapping to do, and keeping an eye on council street naming and numbering committee minutes to keep on top of the area.

Ho inviato i dati a OpenStreetMap, comunque;

Slowly filling in street names when I am out and about in Canning Town, London, E16. Where I live is a bit rough though, so it has taken longer than anticipated, since I can only map when I'm around, and not off at work, and because of the area, it's not always possible. Hence the fact I've not mapped Silvertown just south of Royal Victoria Dock in much detail yet.

More buildings to map in Royal Victoria Dock too, but the GPS signal between the high rise buildings is pretty variable for trying to survey the buildings (I'm using a Garmin GPS 60), so it might take a few more attempts.

Next, I need to start mapping bus stops in the Canning Town area too, and filling in a bit more detail around the ExCel Centre.
