Summary
| Description |
It's unusual to have a main road crossing an airport runway. At Gibraltar there is only one road linking it to Spain and beyond and this is it. The airport is actually owned by the RAF and has been since they built it during World War 2. Then a plane is due to land or takeoff the road is closed at both sides and time allowed for all to cross before the arrival or departure. It's well-regulated and incident free. Work started some time ago to build an underpass but for reasons I don't understand the project stopped. I think it has re-started but am unsure as to progress. At the top of the picture is the border with Spain. |
