| Description |
English: The animal ramp in Borris is decorated with a trailer and two artificial sheep to explain its function. (No further information is available on site.) According to the Folklore collection[1], fairs for trading animals were held regularly in Borris in the past. Speaking to a local resident today, I learned that there is still a fair held on the 15th of August every year, but only Irish travellers bring their horses; no sheep or cattle is dealt any longer.
Borris also still has a Pound Lane, another reminder of the times of fairs in the town. The area of the pound is now partly incorporated into the Step House Hotel and partly a car park.
