Aghagower, County Mayo, Ireland
English: One of the two holy wells at Aghagower. The depicted plate reads: Tobar na nDeochaun (The Well of the Deacons): From 460 to 1216 Aghagower was the episcopal church of Umall with a bishop, a seminary a convent and school. By a direction of Rome it became part of the diocese of Tuam in 1216 and was no longer a bishops see. N.B. This Well and the Well across the road dried up as a result of local drainage. |
