If OSM has 1% wrong data and pro mapping .5% wrong data, it will be easier for OSM to reach .1% than pro mapping to reach .1%.
Pro mapping has errors/wrong data too.

My example was, if you have a long way which is completly missing in OSM in an almost white area of OSM, it's a lot of work to repaint it. In that case you could convert one KML track into one way in OSM and connect the ends with existing streets. My GPS-logger outputs GPX, so I don't have to convert from KML to GPX.
But don't use google routing to get KML and import it into OSM.
Do you still need help to convert with gpsbabel?

Maybe convert KML with gpsbabel into GPX and open that in JOSM.
GPX can be converted in JOSM into OSM.

It looks like it would work with iPod touch also (only internet at home not on the road). I will try it.

And how do you know about the nodes?
Normally GM shows only pics and no data.
But you can trick them by using routing.

You can use XAPI to download amenity=bicycle_parking in a bigger area and than use JOSM or something else to find those without capacity.
e.g.

Ich esse da auch manchmal, deswegen mappe ich das aber nicht.
McDo ist ein typischer POI, ich hatte eine Liste zum Abgleichen und bei OSM wird immer kritisiert, dass es nur in manchen Gegenden gut ist.
Es hätte aber genauso gut Aral-Tankstellen oder Apotheken oder Geldautomaten sein können.

Ich bin davon ausgegangen, dass McDos Knoten (nodes) sind und nicht Wege.
Man kann das Gebäude als Weg mappen mit dem Tag building=yes, dann würde ich
aber in das Gebäude einen Node setzten mit amenity=fast_food.
Nicht das Gebäude ist McDo sondern der ist da drin.
Wenn da auch noch ein Geldautomat drin ist, dann mappe ich den doch auch als Node in dem Gebäude. Und wenn Subway und McDo in einem Gebäude sind. Oder McCafe und McDrive.
Ich will das aber nicht vorschreiben, ich nehme die 132 aus meiner Liste raus.
