That's great. A perfect edit as that's totally non-obvious to those of us mapping from afar.

landuse=residential is not used for buildings and can be removed.

Hello! Is the restroom actually in the middle of parking lot? Totally possible just a little surprising!

Welcome to OSM. Thanks for contributing.

The building outline could be tightened up to follow the roof outline a bit better. Also, one way to make sure things are nice and crisp looking is by using the "square corners" feature. Select an outline then hit 'q'.

This node is redundant and can be deleted. Also will save you some time in future mapping! :-)

Does this outline contain the whole park? I would guess it's a bit bigger given aerial imagery. If you're local, you will definitely know better than me.

Hello!

In general we try to have information on either a node OR the surrounding building (if it's the only occupant). Generally this is called One Feature One Element. osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element.

Feel free to keep one set of tags or the other, whichever seems more the style in Forks.

Hello! Welcome to OpenStreetMap.

One thing that can really help submit changes before you move to a new region of the map. This has a bunch of edits in Hawaii and one roadway in Montana. The tools work a lot better if things are broken up a bit.

way/1167169779 - Is this roadway actually paved in asphalt? The bing imagery makes it look unpaved. Also, you can improve the tagging by makring it as an alley (service=alley).

The Mililani edits looks pretty good. One way to make sure things are nice and crisp looking is by using the "square corners" feature. Select an outline then hit 'q'.

I've made the changes I've suggested above. Let me know if you think any are in error or if you have any other questions. Welcome to OSM!

Hello! Thanks for the additions. Be mindful of buildings overlapping one another. I've fixed the one here but stay on the look out. :-)

This is pretty clearly a grain silo and not a storage tank. If there's a conflict in tagging, the accurate tags should be kept and the conflicting tags removed or updated. Almost all silos near me lack a building tag but I have put the building tag back as building=silo. As you point out, our tagging scheme has lots of other sub-tags off "building:".

As a reminder using Google for mapping is not allowed. Bing StreetSide or Mapillary are similar services that have licenseing allowable for use in OSM mapping.

Here's the wiki for routing. Depending on how deep you want to dive! osm.wiki/Routing

It's definitely good to keep the roadway connected if it does go through... can help in disaster, emergency, or road closure situations.

135356907 over 2 years ago

I'm definitely not an expert on how routing engines make determinations so it's hard for me to say precisely. Would be an interesting question for folks in say the OSM US Slack or the global Discord server.

Most algorithms work my "weighting" with different roads having a higher "cost" to route through. So a route marked with high max_speed or surface=paved etc will have a lower "cost".

I suspect that if the surface there is unpaved or it's marked as max_speed=15 (which is typical for unpaved roadway) or if it's actually a single lane... that the routers will try to keep folks from being directed through there.

Hello! It's quite unusual for an alley like this to have a name. Can you share where you got this name from?

Hello! Thanks for adding things to the map. Definitely reach out if you have any questions about mapping. Happy to help. Here's some notes about the changes here that I think will make everything swell.

For "Families Unlimited Network" the building outline should be drawn to make the footprint/roof of the building, not the overall area. This will also let you remove the layer=1 tag as it won't conflict with the roadway.

"Better Vape" is marked as layer=-1 but it looks like it should be layer=2 due the covering the pathway. You can also make sure things are nice and crisp looking is by using the "square corners" feature. Select an outline then hit 'q'.

Happy mapping.

You can safely remove the name= tags from these. The housenumber isn't really the name. Some houses will have names (mostly historic) but the vast majority of suburban homes should not have a name tag.

You can read more about it here: osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only

Thanks for adding houses here. One way to make sure things are nice and crisp looking is by using the "square corners" feature. Select an outline then hit 'q'.

Hello!

One oddity about OpenStreetMap tagging is that we really like to have all abbreviations expanded. This helps keep any confustion out of the database and the names can be shortened by various data consumers if they prefer. So this should be Circle and not Cir.

Same comments about squaring corners to make things look crisp.

For "The Truss Company" I suspect this is probably not building=service (building=service) and more likely building=industrial. (building=industrial)

If you look through the wiki a bit you way find a better fit based off what you know of the place. building=*

Hello! Welcome to open street map!

One way to get features looking super crisp is to use the "square corners" feature in the editor. Select an outline and hit 'q'. The edits here could benefit from this treatment.

The church outline could be tighter to the building. I try to follow the roofline to make the shape and then align it to the foundation (sometimes the aerial view is skewed a bit... but the aerials look great here).

The name field on the grass by the church is probably better left off or move to a "description" tag. See: osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only

Anyhow, feel free to ask if you have any questions. Happy to help.

Hello!

Thanks for the edit. It's quite hard from aerials to tell what's happening here and the TIGER road database (osm.wiki/TIGER) has this marked all the way through.

Typically access tags on driveways are unnecessary as apps know to avoid routing along them. That said, if a driveway is gated or has "keep out" signage then access=private is great. The more typical access level is "destination" which will still let delivery companies route to the right place.

Anyhow, welcome to OpenStreetMap. Definitely reach out if you have any questions!
