| Questions about parking mapping | Thanks for your comments! I might participate in the discussion, it seems there is a lot to debate about concerning parking spaces :) I will definitely be using OSM help and the wiki talk pages more for this kind of questions, instead of my diary. Learning lots, thanks everyone! |

| Questions about parking mapping | Hi Bernard and aseerel4c26 Thank you both for your input! The detail in Key:capacity escaped my attention. However, this brings another question: in the case of the single parking space, should I still use Capacity=1 even though I already have Capacity:disabled=1, i.e. is a the value of a parent key implied when only a more specific key is used and has value already? Here is a quote from the https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:Tag:amenity=parking page on the wiki: “Use a node for smaller car parks, or an area for a larger car park (but not both for the same facility) and tag it with amenity=parking. If you don’t know the actual car park area or don’t have time to draw it out then just tag a node.” It kind of makes sense to use areas to be as precise as possible, I guess it is the goal of the project (a map that is readable even without a satellite imagery background). Regarding your question, Bernard, the single disabled parking spot is along the street, and the motorcycle space is sort of on the sidewalk, between the street and the school parking access. (The closest Bing zoom is not up to date.) I will have a look into mapping more precisely and adding access roads. Thanks again! :) |

| Editing: OSM's website vs Quest Map Open? | Hi DaCor I will look into this plugin. I have been using the orthogonalizing tool yesterday - very useful to make buildings look neater. Cheers! |

| Just started mapping actively in Brisbane - I have a few questions! | That sounds good! I might do that taking photos when surveying. Cheers! |

| Just started mapping actively in Brisbane - I have a few questions! | Thanks for those tips, UUN! Good to know people are working on Brisbane! I hope to do more addresses when I have a camera to do Photo Mapping. Cheers! |

| Editing: OSM's website vs Quest Map Open? | @Vclaw : Thanks for the tip, that changes everything! @Vanuan : That one looks very promising! However, it freezes very easily for me… Is it supposed to be made for mobile devices? @Sanderd17 : Great, thank you for your insight. I thought MapQuest was only using OSM data for their service - now I understand better! I will be trying to get used to JOSM in the next few days, as this seems to be the best alternative when weighing all the pros and cons. One particular feature that I am looking forward to is photo mapping. Cheers everyone! |
