| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | @richard the you should remember when all the data got reset because of the license change, from what I saw everything was just rushed in and tagged according to any number of random factors and left like that. I assure you that 100 times more thought went into the current classifications than it was before. new highways have even been built that have made previous primary roads redundant and down-graded to secondary. The official data source gets updated accordingly to match the current roads. |

| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | @simonpoole keeping everything in uniform when in the real world thats not how it works falls under “for the renderer mapping” in my opinion. The project has rules against it, using legal and allowed sources should be welcomed with open arms. |

| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | @artic-rocinate , well thats the whole issue I believe, also some countrys drive on the left and others on the right. The whole world is not uniform thats just how it is. If you come here would you like to navigate the roads as they are designed to be navigated? id like to go to Belarus and navigate their roads as intended. The world is big and different thats how it is, Google and Apple use different meanings depending on region/state/country |

| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | @jimkats The data source is Data SA, osm.wiki/Australian_Data_Sources#South_Australia, https://data.sa.gov.au/data/dataset/roads, There is no question at all about permissions or license or anything legal. The OSM project literally has full permission to use it. In fact there was even a plan to import the road and classification data way in in 2015 osm.wiki/Import/South_Australian_Roads , however the bot written to do it wasnt good enough and it ended up going nowhere, and now doing it automatically would be next to impossible because of relations and service roads etc. Its only possible to do it by hand which it did in the ID editor as well. |

| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | I posted it on reddit aswell https://www.reddit.com/r/openstreetmap/comments/1ab8z77/diary_entry_osm_is_banning_people_for_using_data/ |

| This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up | I have linked this from the Australia Community forum as well https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/using-official-data-that-we-have-permission-to-use-will-get-you-banned/108491 |

| - | @CloCkWeRX please help me understand what you are trying to say with the travellers who got bogged, I used the coords on the video to find the road they were on, its birdsville track. it is the only road going to the lake they look like they were trying to get to. Lets say they were using OSM back in 2021 when this happened it was classified as a teritary road/unpaved https://osmlab.github.io/osm-deep-history/#/way/186428588 , it is now classified as a secondary as per the official government source. how would that have made a difference to what happen to these people. it has a render as primary tag maybe we should remove that. the incident happened when someone tried to guess the class of the road, maybe it wouldnt have happened if they used the official goverment source classification, your argument agrees that leaving it up to people to guess is dangerous and we should use official government source. |

| - | changeset/145018824#map=15/-34.6131/138.7511 ok this is getting out of hand I dont know what fortera is trying to say here |
| - | i am literally engaging with you right now and youre a member of the community, how are you |
| - | I am unwilling to engage with this user in particular because this is the person I was talking to when fizzie blocked me from editing OSM, your comment cant force me into a discussion, I didnt ask for this person to comment on my edit, and the person doesnt even understand that I never even split the road. He is commenting to get a reaction from me so fizzie will step in and block me. |
| - | actually its not funny I get blocked for dealing with this, its sad we need a new DWG member to represent australia, I have no faith in fizzie |
| - | the person doesnt get it haha “Hi there, is there any particular reason why you’ve split Main North Road” |
| - | ok now this person is commenting here changeset/145018824#map=16/-34.6113/138.7483 2 hours after I made a edit that had nothing to do with what they are talking about in the changeset comment, fizzie would ban me for even trying to reply here I need DWG intervention please |
| - | @mxxcon, I replied to the comment on the changeset and clockworkx never replied back to clear this up. bt yeah I never create that section osmcha doesnt show when un-classes lines were created |
| - | ok I see what you mean, it looks like I created the section of road. it was showing as a line and got a ID error report so I turned it into a track and it looks like I created it, when you look at the individual nodes you can see it was actually created 9 years ago node/2995306071#map=19/-34.86910/138.75425 |
| - | what else did I do? osmcha shows no changes to its tags. |
| - | @mxxcon, because I never edited the class or any of that track, I moved the node on gorge road a tiny bit and it shows that I was the last person to edit that section of that track. I have nothing to do with its class or access or anything. I edited corkscrew road in the changeset |
| - | @someoneelse, ok ill drop it, OSM has been my sort of hobby over the time and I se OSM in my cars navigation. I am here to make the map better every week I dont really care what other people edit I just know my edits are solid and based on fact I just wish people find there own thing to do instead of singling out my edits just because I go ahead and do them with out having 3 millions talks. I like the OSM project and I like editing it. I would take a job at a mapping comapny if I had the qualifications and will to get a job. |
| - | @someoneelse discord was the only place I interacted with people, I was literally banned because the australian DWG member hangs out there and didnt like how I came across. I was not aware that DWG members can making judgements based on reading discord chats or even allowed to hang out there in a official manner. I didnt even break any rules other than the australian DWG member felt like swinging his bat. My diary entrys are just making people aware that this can happen and nobody cares. and now it has lead to this user having free reign over edits because the bias australian DWG member is in his corner and nobody cares |
