The line weights generally represent the importance of a road. Railway Pde is a tertiary road. Frenchmens Road is residential road which is your normal street. Waterfall Road is an unspecified service road (speckled appearance indicates unpaved) which usually indicates a graded access road, and often these are used for roads that do not have formal reserves. The brown dotted line is a "track" which is typically an ungraded access track that is possibly unsuitable for regular traffic/low clearance cars. Aharvey has changed the Bunjaree cottages access track to a "driveway" service road, which is emphasised lower than Waterfall Road but higher than "track".
I understand there may be some overlap and ambiguity between some of these classifications, it's really up to individual discretion in most cases.

Good morning. Last night I moved the name tag for Bunjaree Cottages towards the Railway Pde entrance. The track itself should remain unnamed but it should now be clear that that is the correct access rather than via Frenchmens Rd (those tracks are now marked private). Note that it might take some time for the map tiles to update and display correctly.

As the others have said, the best practice is to map the ground truth because that is the objective of OSM, rather than cloning the council GIS.
See: osm.wiki/Ground_truth
I did the survey to specifically check whether the Waterfall Road sign was still on the pole (it is) which is why that name was reinstated by user nevw. I didn't touch any of the Frenchmens Road ways.
I understand there is no official road reserve for Waterfall Road, but still support the decision to retain the name. Generally we also do not mark ways as "private" unless they are specifically signposted as such; in this case there is no indication on the ground that any of these easements are private. As volunteers we don't go through title info for every ambiguous road reserve, of which there are plenty in the mountains. The best way to alert us to possible problems is to discuss it as here, where we can fix it quickly easily, or you can right-click the map and choose "Add a note here" with your concerns expressed clearly.

Hi, I am a local mapper who surveyed this area on 24th March. I appreciate your clarification here msleath. I didn't find any indication of private property aside from the mailbox for 1 Frenchmens Rd at the left fork - this is probably the same reason past mappers have mistakenly thought that Frenchmens Road continued eastward, providing access to number 14 and the Bunjaree Cottages. I have removed the Name tags for the easement past the intersection at Waterfall Road, tagged it as private and made it more clear that the cottages are to be accessed from Railway Pde.
Hopefully this solves the issue.

Hi, I understand that there isn't an official dedicated road reserve for Waterfall Road. However OSM records the "ground truth" and a survey found that the Waterfall Road sign is still in place. Also, given that some houses are still addressed as such, I think it would be appropriate to reinstate the name Waterfall Road for way/55547043.

Thanks, not sure how that happened haha. I'll sort it out

MTB names should be added under `mtb:name` tag rather than `name`; this will also make it less likely to be deleted

Good to know, thanks. I'll have a look for the ones I did recently. Any plans for an iD preset?

Hi, this appears to have misplaced the positions of a number of benches. For example the bench at Gordon Falls lookout (node/9376264218) is now 75 metres from the correct location.

Agreed, probably best to remove them now that I have learned more about the proposed tag

fixed this and some other stuff in 149594643. I notice a lot of the power lines I mapped back then probably should be tagged as minor_line instead

101987650 over 1 year ago

The other cable ducts that I tagged are:
location=duct
operator=Transport for NSW
power=cable
voltage=11000
I assume the reason I didn't tag it like this is because there are two in the same vicinity and I didn't know what the other one was for. Probably it is a low voltage signalling cable. I'll just tag it the same as the others but without the voltage tag.

Sorry I might not have been clear. There are two different extensions available; the one you are currently using adds a button to the heatmap webpage where you copy the URL into custom imagery. There is a new and improved extension that bypasses this step and patches iD such that you can add Strava imagery as an overlay rather than a custom layer. That way you can overlay it onto other background layers. It also doesn't leak your Strava cookies in the changeset tags 😉

Hi there,
if you use Google Chrome, there is a new browser extension that patches iD so you can add strava heatmap as a custom overlay. This avoids you having to do the cookie URL method, and you can overlay it over other base imagery. See: osm.wiki/Strava#Browser_Extension

whoops, sorry for making a huge changeset bound, I must have accidentally touched way "Great Dividing Range (211234843)"

Thanks for your GPS note. I have spotted the trig station on the satellite imagery and adjusted the position of the node.

Hi, thanks for your work. Please note that DCS imagery is older than maxar. Some of the changes made in this edit reversed newer map updates (eg. the alignment where Icely Rd joins Northern Distributor). You can check if an edit is up to date by using the history panel inside the editor to see when it was made.

Hi, thanks for your edits - just FYI way/980459522 is not a standard Mitre 10 DIY store; it's a timber yard. So the edits that iD suggest to clear the "nonstandard tags/non-canon brand" warning would be invalid in this case. Cheers
