for all the work you developers bring into JOSM.
Though I sometimes rant about decisions I abhor or pretty old bugs I am thankful for your efforts to enhance JOSM.
Lately I was surprised positively as I found the source= field on the first tab of the upload window.
Long since I had vaguely considered filing an enhancement for this certain feature but small expectation of success combined with only little need for this feature kept me from doing so.

In this regard -

Innerhalb von 5 Tagen hat die Relation bereits über 500 Edits erfahren - sportlich! (und das ist nicht positiv gemeint).

In der OSM Community hat sich der Konsens durchgesetzt dass es besser ist, lieber etliche kleine Objekte anzulegen als ein enorm großes.

Eine “echte” Bahnstromkarte - sei es “nur” ein Overlay oder eine extra aufgesetzte Mapnik-Instanz mit angepasstem Stylesheet - fände ich vernünftig.
Die angelegte Relation hingegen, soviel Arbeit sie auch gemacht haben mag - ist es nicht.

Wenn man nach surveillance sucht, bekommt man noch eine Karte mit Kameras in Frankreich (den Link habe ich aber korrigieren müssen: http://www.leretourdelautruche.com/map/cctv/cctv.html )

I have also realised that I have to remap quite some stuff I mapped times ago either without much source data or with bad mapping practice.

You can also set your GPSMap to log each 0.02km or so. This would combine a dense collection of points while moving with avoiding point clouds (hopefully).

The automated logging settings (often, most often and such) I dropped as soon as I explored my first Garmin device since this setting generated even in the most verbose setting clearly too little data.
Since there is no real space limit for logging on Garmin devices I’d try to log as much as possible. If one thinks the data too dense afterwards it can always get cleaned using gpsbabel.
But still there is no useful tool to remove cloud points automatically.

amenity=money_transfer looks a good tag to me to map this.

I think quite some mappers have the problem collecting more data then they can map. I know some of these and am of the same kind. I even have still some house numbers to map collected in 2009, not to speak of the data I collected during my two holidays this year…

A detail I’d like to mention: When I hike one week, I have a log with ~100k-140k points (logging 1 point/s). Regarding this, 330k points for 144 trips seems a little sparsely to me (but still better then nothing ;) ). Maybe you could set up your device to log a little more verbose?

Thanks to your writeup now I know of the changeset manager though I use JOSM since I started with OSM.

Because I haven’t heard of the changeset manager until now I would have tried to fix the offset this way:
* revert the changeset in question with the reverter plugin
* select the data with offset (by comparing to a data layer with the latest data or an up-to-date map-layer)
* upload only the selection

Maybe this short description helps you to dare with the revert plugin. :)

@ nebulon42: Für sehr große Bereiche brauchst du nur sehr viel Geduld und einen sehr leistungsfähigen Rechner. (Java ist aber eh ned performant).

@ ubahnverleih: Interessanter Aufschrieb. Bei Mapbox findet man auch ein paar Informationen, wie die mit Großmengen von Sat-Bildern hantieren.

Im Juni hatte ich kein Problem, ein Geotiff in JOSM zu laden…

Wäre es zum Abmalen langer Küstenlinien nicht (zumindest teilweise) sinnvoll, ein Tool ähnlich dem nicht mehr funktionierenden LakeWalker oder dem nur teilweise funktionierenden ScanAerial zu verwenden, anstatt die ganzen Küstenlinien von Hand abzumalen?

Irgendwo in den OSM-Blogs schrieb jemand, dass er gerade eine solche Software entwickelt.

Wenn uns (wieder) ein funktionierender Auto-Tracer zur Verfügung stünde, könnte man auch an die Aktualisierung größerer Gewässer denken. Den Lake Nasser zum Beispiel habe ich vor einigen Jahren mit LakeWalker (der auf Landsat basierte) gemappt. Es war schon mit diesem Tool eine aufwendige Arbeit - von Hand würde man ewig daran sitzen. Wenn man den Stausee mit den Bing-Bildern vergleicht, ist er aber nur sehr grob eingezeichnet…
