All throughout in this internship, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, experienced and improvements in my mapping skills, specially when using the application and analysing the problem regarding with tags, imagery and other used data’s. This week was more challenging for me because I’ve encountered so many tricky problem with the imagery and problem in adding or aligning the roads, but in the end, I fixed it and realising the things that I need to enhance more in order to be accurate in editing and tagging. Working in this field was stressful for me since this is my first job and first experience in this kind of job yet I enjoyed this because it helps me to be more logical and confident with my decisions.

This could be the end of my first job but I’m looking forward for some opportunity with this skills I’ve acquired. Hoping this could be helpful for me in the near future.

At this moment, I’ve learned a lot from this past 2 weeks specially in using JOSM. Although I have lots of mistakes, but it teaches me to become smarter in using this application and editing. It made me realised how certain things are important when it comes in editing because it may affect the accuracy of data. Right now I can say that I improved a lot from day 1 up to this moment yet I still need to enhance my analyzation skills and my speed in mapping.

This day, our instructor introduced another technical skill to us and they invited some of their friends to teach those skills. I learned somehow even though I feel like I am new to that lesson that he taught because I already forgot my knowledge about html.

The internship program is still continuing and I’m learning a lot from my co-workers and instructor even from my mistake that I have done. When I realized something, it teaches me how to become more competitive and skillful in this field. But still, it’s never been easy for me to map because there are so many things that I need to learn even at this point.

Yesterday they taught us a new skill for mapping or how to create our own tile set for map. Somehow it is interesting, but the idea of designing a map was a hard thing for me. Although a had a hard time in designing yet I’m still learning to overcome it with the help of my colleagues or by practicing my skill for that and it was fun at all.

This week I’m gaining more knowledge and still figuring out my mistake to become a more efficient mapper.

A couple of months ago, the CWTS++ program ends, but our learning still continue through the internship where it’s held in school (PUP San Juan Campus). So I decided to join the internship program to experience what kind of job it is and to gain some knowledge and skills.

At first, I thought that it is somehow easy, however after our instructors introduced more info. about maps, plugins, data’s and others, it’s not a simple task to do so because I have to train myself in the decision making whether my changes are right or not, so I need to think twice or better to have a consent with my co-worker or with my instructors. But then after, I started to progress and gaining more knowledge in using JOSM application like shortcut keys in tools, proper use of tags and others that helps me to become more better in my mapping skills. Sometimes, I do have some hard time in editing because I’ve encountered some new things that are not taught during training or past lessons or I just easily forgot those things?!. Any ways, this week I’ve learned a lot and hoping to learn more.

Today, the discussion is all about the preparedness of our baranggay in a calamity that might happen in the future. As I heard from them, their community was prepared as if the disaster will happen soon. They do have interviews with their local officials such as kagawad of their baranggay for some important details about the plans. I believe in our baranggay, they do have plans on disasters but I don’t think that it can respond immediately in all areas in Pinagbuhatan Our baranggay is huge with large number of people not just like in Manila were baranggay’s are small. But it seems that even our community are lack of it, they make sure that all citizens are aware in the calamity. As I remember during my junior high school days, most likely, the school always does an earthquake drills for preparation for the disaster. Ambulance, fire trucks and others cooperate with this drill. The teachers always remind where should we go in case of disaster that might happen and what should we bring always with us such as whistle, flashlight and first aid kit. Also, the local officials conduct some seminars regarding with this situation for parents and students. And for floods, sirens are heard so that everyone alerting in case of evacuation, especially in our area that’s near from the river.

After I’ve gathered information, I started to update my neighborhood. For me, it was such an honor to give contribution to my neighborhood. I used Mapillary in capturing images and JOSM application in editing. Those applications help me a lot in doing my task. In editing, I encountered some problems like how to put a right tags, but then, I overcome it, my instructor guided me in editing. Also, I noticed that their new establishments in our neighborhood.

This program gives me additional skills and knowledge. I’ve learned so much in this because it teaches you about humanitarian and helps you to enhance your socializing skills. Also, it gives you the value of helping others. It made me realized that helping others is not always shown physically nor nonphysical like online humanitarian volunteers such as OSM editors.

A couple of days ago, I was given the task to map our neighborhood, which quite different from the one we’ve done every meeting or the one that been assigned to us. So in the first attempt to make a map of my neighborhood, I failed it because of some reason. I don’t know why because I’ved tried several times to download the map, but after downloading the pdf, the picture is still turning into black. But after the last meeting this Thursday, my instructor helps me to map my neighborhood. He never encounters some problem regarding with the pdf of the map which I can’t do properly. But then after receiving the link from him I proceed with my task till I finish it perhaps. There are some that are not yet done tagging and also some are not yet on the map. After surveying some area in my neighborhood, I noticed that there is a building that are existing old and new building around. But there some area that I can’t survey because of some hindrances. I hope I could do properly.
