As I'm working on rivers and their basins I thought I might try to just add child relations to a parent relation - but it did not render!
Example:
Take Lena river,
1. make a relation for the whole length of the river
2. find some tributaries (Vitim, Kirenga, Olyokma) and repeat step 1
3. make a river basin relation and add relations Lena, Vitim, Kirenga, Olyokma
4. test it
It did not render. It only renders when adding all single ways of all rivers (1).
Finished the Ob tributary Chulym/Чулым osm-relation, made a screenshot using OSM Relation Analyzer, uploaded it to wikipedia commons and updated Russian wikipedia [[Чулым (приток Оби)]] - another OpenStreetmap Map on wikipedia ;-)
Added relation for Lanxin railway from Lanzhou to the border of Kazakhstan.
Now I'd like to have a nice topo background a la google terrain showing the rendered rail and upload it to wikipedia - but the result of http://betaplace.emaitie.de/webapps.relation-analyzer/osm.jsp?relationId=163418 doesn't looks very promising if you zoom out and choose CycleMap to display the map...
Such a osm-service is still missing and would be very good: something which would be worth to upload to wikipedia. If relations have a smaller diameter the CycleMap can produce some nice looking map (if the region is covered) but for more than 1000 km distance there is nothing appropriate...
I've added boundaries of Hulunbuir division of Inner Mongolia using the shape file at maplibrary.org. I'm not quite sure about some of the districts though... hopefully a chinese osm'er will have a look ;-)
Reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulunbuir
I started to create relations for rivers and opened [[Wikiproject Rivers]]. Added relations are for example Svapa and Seym(1) as well as Desna. I'm not sure how one could add a hierachical system to show the basin system of rivers: for Dnieper one would have to add all sub-relations of tributaries like Desna (1. sub-level), Seym (2. sub-level), Svapa (3. sub-level) and so on...
Ideas are welcome ;-)

Added some borders and relations for Siberian krais, republics, okrugs and oblasts:
Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Kamchatka, Primorsky, Magadan, Chukotka and Khabarovsk
Added segments and relations for river Aldan (Алдан) and its tributary Amga (Амга)

Sorry - the connection to the OpenStreetMap server failed.
Any recent changes have not been saved.
Would you like to try again ? Retry | Cancel
Clicking Retry does not reveal anything but when I refeshed the page there was no error anymore and the last edited way shows up correctly...
And then another error:
An unusual error happened (in 'pulway'-33). The server said: Precondition failed: the node with id -681 either does not exist or is not visible.
Please email richard bla bla...
What the hack does that mean?!?
If you have edited a long time on a way without being sure that at least some part of your way has been saved from time to time all your edit might be lost!!
Recently worked a little bit on Siberian rivers Лена (Lena) and Олёкма (Olyokma) - boy they are long! Aren't there any shape files to be found anywhere around!?!
Governate boundaries for Syria added from maplibrary.org's ESRI shape file.
Southmost border Syria - Jordan corrected.
Added territories of Haut-Katanga (DR Congo):
Sakania, Pweto, Mitwaba, Lubumbashi, Lake, Kipushi, Kasenga and Kambove-Likasi
provincial borders of the Democratic Republic of Congo added from maplibrary.org shape file and corresponding wikipedia article...
provincial borders of Angola added from maplibrary.org shape file...
admin_level=4 borders still don't show up - neither on mapnik nor on osmarender...
Borders of departments of Nicaragua added...
I'm getting tired of these borders... ;-)
Borders of provinces of Costa Rica added (source: maplibrary)
Borders of the regions of Ethiopia added, source: maplibrary.org...
Maplibrary's data is not _that_ detailed and exact - there are some borders parallel to rivers and there one sees that the borders are way off; needs manual fixing... (same applies to CIA data)
Borders of the 7 regions and the capital district of Niger added...
Borders of the 13 regions of Burkina Faso added...
