That's unfortunate. I've reverted the whole changeset, no telling what else I might have unknowningly had selected. I'll go through the debris later. Thanks for the tip.

Forgot to add -- this changeset also includes preliminary address survey for the missing buildings on Lincoln Place, revising some address nodes added in changeset/62839676.

Hi, a couple questions about this changeset:
1 - This restaurant's menu and business card give the URL namastebrooklyn.com. The sandwich board in front of the restaurant lists namesteparkslope.com. The website you've added, parkslopenamaste.com, isn't listed anywhere at the restaurant. Is this the official website for the restaurant? If so, why doesn't it match any of the printed materials?
2 - Why delete the opening hours? Was this a mistake? If they're wrong, please correct them. Again, these were taken from the printed menu at the restaurant.

Hi Cloey Kim, thanks for contributing to the map. Just wanted to mention that we don't normally add Airbnb apartments to OpenStreetMap unless they LOOK like businesses, ie, if there's a sign visible from from the street. If it's just a normal residential apartment, better not to add it. Thanks, J

Dobry den! I see you've fixed way/338206957 and partially fixed way/417746456. I just submitted changeset/64054624 to restore way/417746456 to its original state and remove the auto drawn in as way/639423126. jmb

Hi Fikek123, thanks for your interest in OpenStreetMap.

Unfortunately the three edits you made in this changeset are problematic. way/417746456 is not a storage tank. way/338206957 is not a parking lot. And way/639423126, while correctly identified by satellite imagery as an automobile, is out of scope for the OpenStreetMap project (we don't map things that are presumed to be temporary.)

If I'm mistaken about these edits please let me know, otherwise I plan to revert this changeset. Please see the Beginner's Guide in the OSM wiki for information on how we map:

osm.wiki/Beginners%27_guide

Thanks, jmb

Same to you, and thanks for helping make my city beautiful!

I've been using operator=FDNY, but I've got no quarrel with operator="New York City Fire Department" -- especially if FDNY is now part of the station names.

63833625 about 7 years ago

Personally I have no problem with the names all starting with FDNY. I like the idea of consistency here.

It's worth noting that there's a lot of variation between the names as they appear on that list and the way they're written on the firehouses themselves. I've been inclined to go with the list version of the name, as it seems more up-to-date. (For example, many firehouses in Brooklyn still have "BFD" on their signs, from when Brooklyn was its own city -- over 100 years ago.)

63833625 about 7 years ago

Hi robgeb -- what source are you using for these fire stations?

I've been using this list to get the official names for the firehouses:

https://data.ny.gov/Public-Safety/FDNY-Firehouse-Listing/hc8x-tcnd/data

Are you simply prepending "FDNY " to these names, or do you have another source?

IANAL, but to my reading the import guidelines are pretty clear on this: If a collection of data found online is not explicitly licensed in a compatible way, get permission before importing.

If "verifying the location" means contacting each club and verifying the name and address, then I'd say we're in the clear here -- by my thinking, that's not an import of someone else's data, it's original research. But if it just means finding the location via iD and putting a node there, I'm not convinced.

See https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/4936/how-can-i-import-pois-from-a-postgis-database-into-openstreetmap for some further info -- that question deals with a direct bulk import, but with a dataset this size the principles are the same. Just because the nodes have been added in several changesets using iD, that doesn't mean the import guidelines don't apply.

Thanks for the reply. Since there's no indication on the teamusa.org website that the list of clubs is in the public domain, it's advised to get written permission before importing them. See:

I mean "public bookcase." Yeesh.

63267597 about 7 years ago

Oops, finger slipped, clearly this isn't downtown Ossining. Changeset comment should be "add public library."

Hi hstremcha -- Can you link to the source of the list you're working from for these weightlifting clubs?

Ugh, how did I get those HOT hashtags on there? Ignore them, obviously.

Hi AJB1998 -- this looks like another import of medical facilities. It's an improvement over your previous changeset/61782997 because at least most of these nodes appear to land on buildings, and only one in the middle of the street:
node/5844929386

Based on these two nodes, which mark buildings that are already tagged on the map, it appears that you're not checking the current state of the map data, but rather importing blindly:
node/5844928986
node/5844928985

Again, there's no way to know where your data is coming from without source tags or comments, and these imports need to be discussed with the Imports mailing list beforehand. Please COMMUNICATE with your fellow mappers! And please spend some time cleaning up this data.
