Libya seems to have declared the Gulf of Surt as internal waters by this document submitted to United Nations (https://www.un.org/depts/los/LEGISLATIONANDTREATIES/PDFFILES/LBY_1973_Information.pdf), but this is contended by EU (e.g. here https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-9-2024-000286_EN.html). I made the changeset according to marineregions.org (https://www.marineregions.org/eezdetails.php?mrgid=8372&zone=eez_12nm), which is normally very well researched. In this particular case, the international community is arguing the opening of the Gulf is too wide for internal waters, so feel free to change it back.

Hi Ivanbranco, thank you for your remark. I have changed the maritime boundary according to marineregions.org which is based on Marshallese maritime laws. We may remove some nodes if it is considered too detailed. With best regards, hanzlan

The exact source is this PDF of British Indian Ocean Territory Maritime Limits from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office: https://datahub.admiralty.co.uk/portal/apps/sites/#/marine-data-portal/items/4124682d89e244ab8468a3803889d831 I tried to apply the 3 nm maritime limit by using QGIS buffering around the islands.

Thank you for your fast reply too. I am pretty active on mapping in Palau at the moment as there are still many islands without any names and detailed maps of Palau are scarce. Toponymy is quite hard as it cannot be seen from satellite imagery, so it's good to have you with local knowledge :)

The strange shape is a result of Comoros claim on Mayotte which is administered by France. The archipelagic baselines of Comoros include the island of Mayotte, but due to French administration the part of Mayotte is "cut off".

hey, thank you for the links to the wiki pages. I haven't seen them yet, but they are very informative. to be honest, I only extracted the UTM coordinates and created points in qgis. then i connected them to a line (with straight segments) and saved it as geojson, which I imported into JOSM. In JOSM, I used opentopomap as background layer to finish the line which is mentioned in the gaceta oficial "desde este punto, se sigue por toda la divisoria de aguas que separa todos los afluentes de los ríos Teribe y Changuinola". But I haven't managed to correct the straight segments which should actually follow river lines or contour lines as the UTM points are sometimes a little bit off to the rivers and contour lines in opentopomap.
