Changeset When Comment

I was looking at postcodes and I've changed node/8754412828/ to 14 as it looked like a mistake having a duplicate 16, if that's not right then please check and correct.
Thanks

Using a custom layer in JOSM created by Rob Nickerson:
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2021-September/027693.html

Which uses this data:
https://geoportal.statistics.gov.uk/datasets/4ee7422138104d568538137dc2d4f1e1/about
which can be used under the OGL (i.e. is compatible with OSM), see the licence info on that page which was prompted by https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/licence_clarification_for_nsul_a

Fair enough

Just wondering what your source on the postcode for this is, data I have suggests that GU51 3LN is the other side of the road and this side is 3LW

No worries
I guess MapRoulette maybe doesn't make it clear enough what's happening
Don't let that put you off helping with the challenge though, there are still loads to go!

In general I think it's best to tag something even if that tagging is tagging an absence.
I have not tagged all religious schools yet, so I assume they are not all done

I've added the phone number back here.
The challenge should not suggest to remove data like that, but if a change is suggested that you're not sure about then keep the previous value.

Same here with the name, which I've added back

111624420 about 4 years ago

Did the challenge really suggest the name be removed?!
I've added it back here

The possible values in the data for "Denomination" are:
Non-denominational : 2090
Roman Catholic : 360
Inter-denominational: 7
Episcopalian: 3
Jewish: 1
All schools have a denomination recorded.
In Scotland it seems that schools have to provide Religious Observance: https://www.gov.scot/publications/curriculum-for-excellence-religious-observance/
Paragraph 13 from that seems to be the key bit in explaining what non-denominational schools are like.

From that, I'm not sure that the face that there has to be some sort of religious observance would mean that a school should be tagged with a religion.

There are 23 objects tagged with variations of non-denominational in religion, according to taginfo, out of 1.4 million objects.

I could use a value like that, but I'm not sure whether it has more value, and "non-denominational" seems to have a fairly specific meaning in Scotland.

Happy to be corrected on any of the above

NSUL postcodes has this as CM0 8TE and that's also the postcode given on the website, am I alright to fix it?

111062137 over 4 years ago

And that's why I thought it would be reasonable here as that's sometimes the case near me too and all houses on both sides have the same postcode here.
As an aside, I've used postal_code:left and :right where postcodes are different on each side

> Roads (ways) don't really have full postcodes
They don't really have part postcodes either, so I'm not sure what utility that information has, whereas a full postcode could be routed to (if that was all that was known), rather than considering all buildings with the postcode.

Similarly here, I think B3 6JS should be B43 6JS and B3 6LG should be B43 6LG

Hi, what's your source for the postcodes here?
The ones that you've added as B3 6DT I think should be B43 6DT and likewise B3 6DX to B43 6DX

I feel like you should almost ignore the words used in the highway tag, and consider it confusing that they are similar to, but not the same as, the classification of UK roads by the government.
For the same sort of issue in other countries, see for example osm.wiki/East_Africa_Tagging_Guidelines
and note e.g. "In Kenya, despite the official designation International Trunk Roads, most of type A roads are not trunks as defined by OSM. The vast majority of Kenyan A roads must fall into the category highway=primary."
