The difference is really between "terrace" and "terraced".
Until recently, there hadn't been anything specific to distinguish individual terraced houses, but then the house= subspace started being used. You could just map them as a house and be done with it, or add house=terraced to be more specific

The UPRN I had added is the UPRN of the school and I assume the one you added is that of the building.

Is there any way to split the school from the building? i.e. do the two schools fully share that site or is there any way they can be mapped as separate areas, apart from their buildings?

Unrelated to the above discussion, you've added a couple of objects with phone=pole (and no other tags)
It's not clear what you've meant by this, is it something like
man_made=utility_pole
utility=telecom

or

man_made=mast
tower:type=communication
communication:mobile_phone=yes

phone= should only be for the phone number of an object

It seems odd for
way/1046011963/ to have a phone number tagged but no other feature tagged.

It probably needs a path adding in front of the houses, but it's not visible from aerial due to the trees

It sounds like you're saying that ABetterRoutePlanner is unaware of addr:housename, this sounds like a bug there and shouldn't be dealt with by duplicated tagging in OSM data.

I disagree with your point about name there, as it is still duplicating data.

In my mind if a house has addr:housename but not addr:housenumber then nohousenumber=yes is implied

I don't think that having a duplicate name changes that at all

I'm not sure how you managed it, but in this and another changeset you had a non-printing character between the sections of the postcodes for a couple of places (S36 7JW and S36 7JY)

as a hotel, when it is a residential area.
If there is a hotel there then it should be mapped as its own separate building. (I have reverted it to residential area)
