Is the name of way/207223471/history#map=15/51.6290/-3.8758 really "Tennant Canal (disused)"? I suspect that it's either a "waterway=derelict_canal" or perhaps a "waterway=canal;disused=yes". Either way, the name shouldn't contain the status; just the name. See osm.wiki/Names#Name_is_the_name_only .
