Mexico boundaries import status.

Hi Walter, i agree, this was my error, i did not factor in the difference in experience between the members of the team. We where 4 persons that handled the re-gluing the al6 to the al4 .

For the future we had decided to have a peer approach when after we will do a import, another user will check what other member of the team did.

Average highway node distance between 2 points in OpenStreetMap - September 2015

Hi @nakaner, thanks for the feedback, i will try to do it tomorrow, if not i will do it during the weekend.

Average highway node distance between 2 points in OpenStreetMap - September 2015

It is in EPSG 3857

Great idea, is in my to do list, but did not figure out the code to to that yet

Postigs question - find out the unnecessary points that exist on the map

Butrus sure this can be filtered from the query.

Anyhow, this is a hobby project, i don`t have yet the postgis skills to do it, so no worry

Also, i just want to see the result, i will not act upon it.

When i will be able, i will just highlight the extreme cases, and maybe do a maproulette challenge when a road have more then 10 nodes that can be deleted, so that users can check them

Nice, waiting to hear more about your adventure :)

Postigs question - find out the unnecessary points that exist on the map

I will leave the code here and try to work on it after i will find some postgis gurus that will be able to help me :P

Postigs question - find out the unnecessary points that exist on the map

@SimonPoole that is a valid point of view.

Anyhow, i think i should change the initial hypothesis, to the first thing that i am interested, that is, to be able to detect and count this. then, publish the metrics. Then we will know some numbers.

I am trying to develop different metrics that could help us find errors on the map. One of the aims is to be able to detect the overnoded ways from import.

Postigs question - find out the unnecessary points that exist on the map

Thanks, i did not know about the Douglas-Peucker algorithm, i will check it out and see if maybe this can be used for this simple task.

I had used this in the past http://pastebin.com/2kH0mAWG to calculate in Qgis the angles that are more then 50 degrees ,when i wanted to create a map roulette challenge for Romania and

Now, it`s kind of the same idea, but with a different threshold

Postigs question - find out the unnecessary points that exist on the map

I don`t want to do it, especially in a automated way and without consulting the community. I had not find yet a way to import the whole planet, only part of the planet

But i want to have the proof of concept, to show.

Example 53405432 nodes could be removed, saving us XX MB , reducing the import time of the planet file by XXX seconds …

How many days or weeks does it take to upload the whole planet via Osmosis ?

I will kill the task and try 2 different version :

1 imposm3

  1. load by regions and then join in postgis

the only information that found says that i still have to wait at least 7 more days http://ksmapper.blogspot.ro/2011/04/parse-planet-into-pgsnapshot-database.html

I think i got an answer, based on

If the copy*****n it`s 317 GB

What is the approximate size of copy****w 80 % ( 240~ GB ) copy*****wn 10-20 % (50-60 GB)

How many days or weeks does it take to upload the whole planet via Osmosis ?

i want to do statistics about everything that is on the planet file, from every piece of the world.

I know that i could just import each continent and then do some join to stitch all together, but then whats the point of a planet file.

I already Have Africa loaded, some more countries loaded, but the aim of my statistics will be to show everything that is on the map, how it relates, what particularities exists in different parts of the world

How many days or weeks does it take to upload the whole planet via Osmosis ?

@jean osmosis have a bug and it does not work to process a file and upload it to postgres without the sudo command.

How many days or weeks does it take to upload the whole planet via Osmosis ?

I have access to the server, what should i change / could i change

I want the whole planet, so i can do some statistics for the whole planet, not just a country or a continent.
