Heh, well unfortunately I was kinda the wrong person to see it as I don't live in Alaska, I was just doing some mass edits on churches and saw this on the history viewer. Would probably be best to revert and bring your discussion to slack or community.openstreetmap.org
Perhaps a new tag similar to speed_pedelec for the US is in order

I suppose my main concern / what I should have said is that adding motor_vehicle=yes but not adding motorcar=no, hgv=no, atv=no, etc for the however many types of motor vehicle that isn't a 750w+ electric two-wheeled vehicle is kinda problematic. I assume driving a car down a cycleway would be enforced at least.

Sorry all! I assumed that JOSM "upload individually" would create separate changesets for each, but that clearly isn't the case.

Hi, instead of using motor_vehicle perhaps use electric_bicycle, or in this case maybe speed_pedelec. Though I think you should really just stick to electric_bicycle as the access tags are generally understood to be de jure and not de facto.

Hi Jason, thanks for your edits. Just a note, I noticed you added name="Humboldt R Center" to many of the elements within the actual recreation center. Generally you want to reserve the name tag for the name of the element itself, which most of these don't have. Instead you can put it in the operator tag. Also generally you shouldn't use abbreviations. Learn more here: osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions

I've changed it to leisure=playground + playground=splash_pad. Most leisure=water_park are actually mistagged splash pads.

Hi, FYI you can create an area and tag it as natural=wood instead of creating hundreds of natural=tree nodes :)

Hi, I noticed you added a few ford=yes nodes connecting paved roads with waterways (such as node/7876464593). Fords are when you have to drive/walk through water; instead these should be tagged as culverts or bridges in the future. Thanks!

Whoops, meant to comment on changeset/124358022, but whatever

124732842 over 3 years ago

Hi, thanks for your edits. Are you sure 9925228847 is a ford, rather than a culvert? If you don't know what they are on the ground or can't see clearly on the imagery then just leave it, even if the editor gives you a warning. Usually when maintained roads cross small streams it's a culvert, sometimes it's a bridge -- fords are quite rare for maintained roads. In the case of 9925228847 it's not only likely a culvert but also it seems to be about 150ft north of where the actual crossing is (NHD stream import), from comparing to lidar imagery

Hi, there was already a node within the Brewery St post office building with amenity=post_office and the name, so you generally shouldn't add "Post Office" to the building (unless you're deleting the node and transferring all the relevant tags to the building). See: osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element
Thanks

Hi delonix, thanks for your edits. Generally you shouldn't use the name tag for descriptions like "Bathrooms" or "Bocce Court", please see osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions

120987575 over 3 years ago

Hi jbrizza, welcome to OSM. Generally with names you shouldn't add descriptions, unless they're literally the official name of the feature, please see: osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions
So in this case, the athletic fields for example should probably be left without a name tag. Instead, you can add the operator tag as Pomfret School. Similarly the buildings probably shouldn't all have Pomfret School added to the name. You can also add the operator tag there, though it's already somewhat implied by the surrounding amenity=school area.

Hi, thanks for your edits. A couple of notes:
- The correct denomination value should be orthodox_presbyterian_church, not orthodox_presbyterian, see wiki: osm.wiki/Key%3Adenomination
- service_times must follow a specific syntax, see wiki: service_times=*
- When creating buildings by hand with right angles, you can hit the Q key to "square" (orthogonalize) a shape to make perfect angles before uploading

FYI Most (~80%) "congregational" churches in CT, such as way/206954336, can be tagged as united_church_of_christ (UCC) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Church_of_Christ#History

117922290 over 3 years ago

Hi Derek, FYI most "congregational" churches in CT / New England can be more accurately tagged with denomination=united_church_of_christ rather than denomination=congregational. Rocky Hill Congregational is UCC like most of them, though the one in Wethersfield is not.

Hi roptat, just a note, try to avoid adding descriptions in the name tag. See: osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions
In this specific case, you can use the species tag to denote the type of animal, or alternatively tag it as landuse=animal_keeping and then do something like animal_keeping=horse landuse=animal_keeping
