Changeset When Comment

I don't understand why you make such changes in order to fix minor issues. I reverted this changeset and then only had to remove one way from a relation to fix the issue. If you're going to police the world for these types of issues, please take the time to fix them properly.

Whoops, that was an embarrassing spelling mistake. Thanks for fixing that!

You surveyed more than 8000 mailboxes across Canada and determined that they're all named "Canada Post Community Mailbox" (when I didn't think mailboxes had names)? You've also singlehandedly replaced all instances of the long-standing tag type=cmb in favour of a tag with far lower usage. This is clearly a mechanical edit and needs to be reverted. A change like this needs to be discussed first.

Hi Clement1950,
This change converted the country of Canada into a bus stop. I assume this was an accident. I've reverted the changeset, which restores Canada to its previous state.

Salut Clement1950,
Ce changement a converti le pays du Canada en un arrêt de bus. Je suppose que c'était un accident. J'ai annulé le changement, qui rétablit le Canada dans sa forme antérieure.

Please don't. Fictional names don't belong in the main database.

I agree that it's odd, but this one actually does. There's a set of three cables that runs along the south side of the towers from east to west. When they reach the tower at the east side of this changeset bbox, these three cables split off to a separate tower (the one deleted here). From that tower, they extend down to the ground. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that they either then run underground to the water disinfection facility to the northwest, or they're for some kind of grounding. I guess it would have been more accurate to extend the way beyond that last tower and tag the termination point at the ground, in order to provide more context for this unusual situation.

Hi BGJones,
I mapped a number of the trails in this part of the park, and the unofficial ones don't have any signage indicating that bikes or horses aren't allowed on them. That's why I had tagged them as "path", which indicates a trail where the designated uses aren't known or don't exist. I think it's good to keep the distinction between those trails which are considered "official" and have signage indicating the permitted uses, and those that are unofficial and unsigned with no clear permitted or prohibited uses. With the current tagging of "footway", that indicates a trail that is explicitly designated as being for foot traffic, which isn't true for the unofficial trails. What do you think?

I wondered that myself when I got home and went to add it. I drove past there again yesterday and confirmed that the signage says exit 7, despite that being out of order. I wonder if someone will notice and change the signs eventually.

I've removed the opening_hours from this gate. The hours on Mosaic gates vary depending on the time of year, and there are also stretches of the year where it will be closed 24/7. The note that led to this changeset was likely an improper use of notes and was intended for sharing with someone else, not as a source for editing OSM data.

92168816 about 5 years ago

This changeset undid recent changes and moved objects to where they were a few years ago, and also added a playground where none has ever existed. I've now reverted it.

I now realize that you're remotely "fixing notes" all across Canada with no local on-the-ground knowledge. Please don't do this. Cases like this demonstrate why local knowledge is required. Now that I realize that you're blindly making changes based on notes, rather than actually visiting to confirm the current situation, I'm going to go back and revert your change that I questioned on the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. I'm also going to look carefully at your other changesets in this region to make sure they didn't also make undesirable changes.

Please leave notes to be investigated by the local contributors, because they're the only ones who have the full picture.

Thanks! It was a combination of water and waterway data from CanVec, road and landcover/landuse tracing from aerial imagery, and road names from BC logging road data.

91729869 over 5 years ago

These addresses are all abbreviated and in all uppercase. They need to be converted to match the street names in OSM.

91726997 over 5 years ago

It looks like these were imported directly with no changes to use OSM tags. There's nothing tagging them as streetlights and all of the foreign tags are still there.

91547672 over 5 years ago

Did you do a site visit and confirmed that the name has changed? Like I said in my comment on the note, the signage said "Cowichan Lake Sports Arena" a couple of months before the note was added, and was skeptical that the reported name change had occurred. If you confirmed that it has, then so be it.

A road crossing a waterway doesn't necessarily mean there's a bridge. Many of these crossings on logging roads are culverts, especially if it's a minor waterway like some of these likely are. Unless you know there's a bridge there, it would be better to leave it as an "issue" so someone can know to check it in person and confirm which type of crossing it is. I do this myself when I'm out driving these logging roads.

91060419 over 5 years ago

Yeah, I'm not sure what its purpose is. It looks somewhat temporary, but it's been there for a number of years now. I've reverted this changeset, which restores the objects to the way they were.

This reservoir was created early in the process of the creation of the Glenshire Business Park, so it was fairly modern. I could still see it in some 2019 imagery, but I haven't been by there in a little while. I know there was some more construction happening up in that part of the business park, so it's possible that it wasn't needed anymore and has since been removed so buildings can be built there. This should probably be confirmed by a site visit, though.

Many of these driveways and tracks exist in reality, so I've restored them and tagged them access=private. A few of the trails and tracks don't appear to exist anymore, so I didn't restore those.

tower:type=broadcast has only been used 4 times and doesn't really tell us much more about these than tower:type=communication. It might be better to change these back to the documented tower:type=communication and then add additional tags like communication:radio=yes or communication:television=yes to indicate which communication methods are hosted by the tower. (tower:type=communication)

Also, I'm curious what your source is for these names. I haven't been able to find a source that says these towers have names. The ISED site is a bit of a nightmare to find anything. :)

What was your source for this change? Kapoor Main has always been strictly off-limits to the general public by any mode of transportation. It seems unlikely that foot/bicycle/etc. traffic is now allowed.
