Hi,

I'm cleaning up the ramps from I-990 to UB North Campus, and I noticed that you set the destination:street tag.

The destination, and destination:* keys are to be used for destinations that are signposted on the ground. They should not be used simply to refer to where a road leads.

In this case, the exit in question is signposted as leading to "University at Buffalo North Campus", or something similar, I can't remember the wording exactly. It doesn't mention Audubon Parkway at all, so there shouldn't be a tag mentioning it.

I'll go ahead and delete the destination:street tag, but please only use the destination tags for signposted destinations in the future.

Thanks,
John

Hi there,

I noticed that you tagged the turnarounds on Capen and Windermere Boulevard as highway=unclassified. This tag has a misleading name, and does not mean a road that has a nebulous classification. Rather, it is more like a step below tertiary, and is almost exclusively found in rural areas.

Should these roads have been tertiary, I believe that highway=tertiary_link would be the best tag to use for the turnarounds. However, there is no link tag for residential roads, so I'm going to tag these turnarounds as highway=service. I believe that it is more appropriate than unclassified.

To expand upon the downgrade from motorway, there is only one grade separation. It's fairly agreed upon that more is necessary to warrant motorway.

Yes, there's definitely a better way. highway=construction means a road that is currently under construction, and is anticipated to be completed. Since there doesn't seem to be active construction on this road, this tag is not appropriate.

The way I'd usually do something like this is by tagging the road with access=no, foot=yes, bicycle=yes, etc. This means that it's closed to all traffic except for foot and bicycle. However, you run the risk of some piece of software seeing "access=no" and marking the road as closed to everyone.

If you want to say that the road is open to everything except motor vehicles, you could just add motor_vehicle=no.

Is this road really under construction?

Please try to break up your changesets into more localized areas.

Please use NYS Orthos Online as your imagery source. Bing is very poor quality, and isn't well aligned.

Hi,

"The Crossining" is a name that is sometimes used to describe this bridge. I live in the area, but had not heard this name before seeing it on the map, and looking it up. Though it isn't a ubiquitous name, it is used.

"Croton River Bridge", on the other hand, is both ambiguous (see Quaker Bridge just up the river), and not used among locals.

Personally, I would advocate for there to be no `name=` tag on this bridge at all, since there is no common name for it that is used in common speech.

There are at-grade intersections on this part of the Taconic, so it should be trunk, not motorway.

Hi,

It looks like you accidentally changed the maxspeed of way/220441219 to 80 mph. Would you mind fixing that, and seeing if you did the same to any other roads?

36191546 over 4 years ago

This changeset (and surely many of your others titled "ggg") is almost entirely obvious vandalism, particularly in absurdly high values for maxspeed. Many of the vandalized ways still have the bad maxspeed tag (see the edited part of FDR Drive, which still has a maxspeed of 120 mph). I will be reverting as much of this as I can, over the next day.

Unfortunately, it looks like you haven't been editing recently, but I just wanted to let you know that you mistagged several apartment buildings in this changeset. It looks like you usually use building=apartments (correct), but you used landuse=residential with residential=apartments a fair bit in this changeset. I went ahead and fixed them, but just make sure you stick to the building=apartments tag in the future.

From the wiki page for type=site:
"The features should have a close geographic relationship, usually within the same town. For example, do not use this relation to group all restaurants of a fast-food chain. Use a combination of name=*/operator=*/network=*/brand=* to group loosely-coupled and/or widely-distributed features - relations are not categories!"

As Croton Dam Road (leading to the dam) provides no outlet, it should not be tagged as highway=unclassified.

It looks like you've added a name to the wrong node. Perhaps you meant to add it to the amenity=toilets node slightly to the northeast? For now, I'll revert this.

Also, looks like there were actually two nodes on top of each other. Fixing that too.

That thought crossed my mind, though those two roads are the ones that continue to meet properties, similar to the rest of the road. It still may be the best approach though.

Outside of this bypass, I think most of the road should be highway=primary, since it carries quite a bit of traffic, but also has many properties along it. It has a similar feel to many US highways, which are usually tagged as primary roads.

101356090 over 4 years ago

That's a fair point. Perhaps the difference in quality between the bypass and the intersecting part could be made with the `expressway=yes` tag? That is, the bypass could be marked with that tag, which I believe is appropriate.
