Changeset When Comment

Hi Gisellakai,

When you add buildings, you should typically use the building tag rather than just marking the walls as barriers.

I'm not sure if you saw my comment here but I left some hints and links to help you get started with OSM:

Hi Gisellakai and welcome to OSM.

I'm commenting on your most recent change in the hope that you see it.

Thank you for your contributions to the map so far!

There's a couple of things I've spotted that I thought might help you improve your mapping:

-You’ve added a lot of personal information to the map including the location of your house and the houses of your family members – and you’ve labelled it as such. OSM is a public map, and that kind of information doesn’t belong here.

-You’re using the name= key to describe a lot of things. The name tag should only be used for actual names of things and other tags should be used to describe its features. If something is a park, you can tag it with leisure=park rather than name=park. It’s totally okay to not include a name if you don’t know it or if something doesn’t have one.

- A lot of the buildings you’re added aren’t squared up and you’ve missed tagging some as buildings (for example you tagged a lot of buildings as landuse). To square a shape up, you can right click it in the iD editor and then press “Square” (or just select a shape and press “Q” on your keyboard.

Hi Anonuser420 and welcome to OSM.

Thanks for your contributions to the map so far!

Just a couple of hints to help you out along the way:

- Parks are defined in a specific way on OSM, and this definition doesn't include private residential yards. You can read more about how to map parks here: leisure=park

-It's generally considered good practice to limit the mapping of private residential yards. You can read more here: osm.wiki/Limitations_on_mapping_private_information

-There is a distinction between landuse=grass and natural=grassland. Grassland is unmaintained and in a natural state and wouldn't be especially common in maintained urban areas.

Hi Nedelcu,

This feature appears to already be on the map as an area: way/339027533

Hi Moredechai,

Welcome to OSM and thanks so much for your new additions to the map!

Just a quick hint after looking at your recent edits:

OSM normally works on the concept of one feature one OSM element: osm.wiki/One_feature,_one_OSM_element

Rather than stacking multiple leisure tags (i.e. leisure_1, leisure_2, amentity_1, amenity_2) it's often better to map the additional individual features separately rather than trying to cram a whole heap of unique features into one single area as tags.

I also noticed that you're using "_" to represent spaces in names - OSM supports normal spaces for the name key, meaning you can type out the names of places as they actually are written. For example, name=Cielo_Playground should be name=Cielo Playground

I can't recall exactly, but I *think* something in OSMcha/an Overpass-Turbo query drew me to this general location while I was hunting fictional Pokemon GO mapping, and then I found your edit via Osmose while doing a more general quality assurance check of the local area before moving on.

Hi Paolo!
You added a park tag to this farmland: way/699156927
I'm not sure if I understand your thought process here?

91593237 about 5 years ago

Hi dwheels,
You changed way/240834749 to a road, but it appears to be a stream. Were you possibly trying to add a bridge to one of the roads it passes under?

Hi Joseph!

Is this: way/853099020

Supposed to be a parking lot? At the moment you have it tagged as a grassy green park.

You're also using a lot of capital letters, is that intentional?

91721644 about 5 years ago

Hiya Kersey,

I'm not sure if the medians you added here would qualify as parks by osm definitions.

It's a little hard to see what they are covered in (maybe gardens?) but it doesn't look like they could be used as open green space for recreation.

Also, don't forget that the name tag shouldn't be used for descriptions.

Hi cb325!
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to represent here - it looks like you've got the letters J and S drawn in disconnected paths under some water?

Hiya Shelby!

Welcome to OSM and thanks for your recent contribution to the map!

I just had a look at your edits and had a little feedback - you seem to be using the name tag to describe things (like the sidewalk being named "sidewalk" and the Bowling Alley being named "Bowling Alley")

We generally reserve the name tag for actual names of things. Other attributes and descriptive elements can be added using combinations of other tags.

The OSM wiki is a great resource to find out how to tag things, you can find it here:
osm.wiki/Main_Page

Please feel free to reach out if you need any help!

Happy mapping :)

Heya Deven!

Welcome to OSM and thanks so much for your recent contributions.

I have made a few changes around the Kootenai Technical Education Campus and the North Idaho College Parker Technical Education Center:

- I fixed the typo in both names (you had an extra "i" on both).

- I set North Idaho College Parker Technical Education Center as a college rather than a school (amenity=college)

- I disconnected the areas for the school and college from the adjacent parallel roads. It's really tempting to do join everything up, but it makes them a pain to edit later. Also, the landuse for the college/school is more accurately represented stopping at the curb/fenceline.

Hiya Fightingshy,

Looks like your personal info might have leaked back into OSM again - node/7903354685

This is the same location that was removed previously after being added here:

Heya nitram,
Looks like they were fixed up with the dupes being removed about 22 hours ago in this changeset: changeset/90668993

90603626 over 5 years ago

Hi nitram!

There appears to be 3 instances of the same park here (two areas and a node): way/845488208

It might be best to merge them into one feature.

Thank you for the revert here!
There were a couple of small things that seem to have been captured in the revert process- I noticed the park adjacent to the cinema and the wikipedia tagging on the fairgrounds. I've readded those for now.

Hi Ann!

Thanks for your recent contributions to the map!

It looks like you added a duplicate of Kate's Garden - there was a 6+ year old version of it already - way/180808936 The older area is a little larger than the one you added. Do you know if the entire older area is considered Kate's Garden or is it just the smaller space you added?

Some of these changes are associated with the DWG report I raised about a week and a bit ago (id: 2020082110000078). Mapper has continued to add fictional elements to West Liberty and is not responding to changeset comments.

Hiya mojo1011!

Welcome to OSM and thanks for your recent additions to the map!

Just a little feedback on this edit (nothing serious, don't worry):

We normally reserve the name tag for actual names of things rather than descriptions. Most features can be described using relevant tags, for example this dog park could be tagged as described on this OSM wiki page:

leisure=dog_park
