Hi!
Welcome to OSM
The name tag should be reserved for actual names of things rather than descriptions.
Object properties can be described using appropriate tagging such as sport=basketball or leisure=playground

Hi!

You changed the building for Broadway Elementary School into school grounds in this changeset - the grounds are already on the map and are typically where most of the school detail tags belong.

Are you okay to restore the building tag to the building?

120188080 over 3 years ago

For reference:

-You changed more than one long section of suburban sidewalk into a bridge.

- You added a restaurant in the middle of a road.

-You changed a huge section of a locality boundary into a subway, split it and then added a bridge in the middle.

-You added an impossibly fast speed limit to a school parking lot.

-You created a pedestrian crosswalk at the entrance to a school.

Hello,

Welcome to OSM.

Unfortunately, none of the changes you have made here make much sense.

You may need to run through the iD editor tutorial or consult the OSM wiki to gain a better understanding of how to map before making any further changes here.

Hi Trinity,

Please make better use of your changeset comments in order to help other mappers understand what you are doing.

Hi Maggie!

Welcome to OSM and thanks for your recent additons!

Please be aware that sidewalk tagging should only be applied to paths that run alongside roads. Other paths, footways and cycleways do not require sidewalk tagging.

If you're drawing traversable features with a fork, you need to use two different lines (ways) rather than running a single line back over itself.

There are also limits to what we should add in private backyards, the following OSM wiki page gives more details:

Hi Mlynch23,

Thanks for your additions to the map and welcome to OSM!

A couple of quick hints based on your recent edits:

The name tag should only be used for actual names of things, not descriptions.

Additionally, sidewalk tagging should only be applied to sidewalks (paths that run alongside roads) other paths can just be tagged as footways, paths or cycleways as appropriate.

Thanks for the quick reply and confirmation. I did indeed leave the park as that seemed a lot more plausible.

Hello, the changes you have made don't make much sense - you added a beach to a house and changed a residential road into a link road to nowhere.

Hi supercrazycoder10000,

This changeset had several warnings as you drew multiple paths and other highways over the top of each other. Looks like a lot of it happened near Smyth Hill.

When you write changeset comments, please include more detail so everyone else knows what you are doing:

Hi BeachMate - there's already a beach mapped here, is it the same feature?

Hi! Welcome to OSM

The correct way to tag a tennis court is as:
leisure=pitch
sport=tennis

The iD editor should have this as a searchable option when tagging.

Hi kathyyy,

Welcome to OSM!

Just some feedback on your edits - the name tag should be reserved for actual names of things rather than descriptions. It's ok to not have a name if something doesn't actually have one.

Most properties of an object can be described with other tags.

Please reach out if you have any questions :)

Hello,
Do you have more information about this park? I can't find any reference to a park by this name existing in this location.

119553843 over 3 years ago

Hi Rebecca,

Welcome to OSM!

I'm not sure if leisure=park would be the best tag to describe this particular location - it might be better tagged as a nature reserve or protected area?

leisure=park

leisure=nature_reserve

boundary=protected_area

Hi Don!

Welcome to OSM and thanks for your contributions so far.

I hope you don't mind, but I have a bit of constructive feedback:

You've added these Pickleball Courts as a park. There are tags such as leisure=pitch, leisure=sports_centre and landuse=recreation_ground which can describe these kinds of features better. These also have sports=* tagging included by default on the iD editor, which makes selecting the sport easier.

The name tag should generally be reserved for actual names of things rather than descriptions or usages.

Hi ScrawnyMeowth1,

Welcome to OSM!

Thanks for your contributions so far. Just one quick bit of feedback- you're "gluing" features like parks to adjacent roads.

It's generally advised not to do this as it makes maintaining both the road and park harder in the future. It is also less accurate than mapping the actual extent of the park boundaries.

119406175 over 3 years ago

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've moved the proposed name to the existing park area using the name tag with a proposed prefix (proposed:name=E.T. Park) so that the park isn't duplicated but the information you added is retained until the name change process is completed.

119406175 over 3 years ago

Oh, it's legit E.T. as in the movie.

Do you know if this is formalized? News articles seem to say that it's being considered at the moment.
