Changeset When Comment

Hi and welcome to OSM!

When you add parking lots, the correct tagging is amenity=parking. It's a common error, but leisure=park (which you used here) is an open green space with playgrounds and gardens.

Thanks for your contributions to the map so far :)

Hi Felix,
What were you trying to add here? You created a park inside of a building and named it for its coordinates.

I guess the alternative would be to split it at the footpath above the playground. Top being grassland, or meadow, or grass... whatever it actually is on the ground, and the lower part being a park. I don't know though...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gotcha, okay, so if it's the same feature then it should probably be the one area. I've adjusted the relation to include the additional fenced off part of the Nature Reserve - which I believe is what you were attempting to do in the first place?

I've ticked review requested on that changeset, so if other more knowledgeable mappers object they can follow it up.

Yeah it's a little weird how that little section is just caged in on its own, maybe another mapper with local knowledge might be able to help out here.

Does this location have a name?

76408472 about 6 years ago

Is this all considered part of Fraser Oval or does it have a different name?

Generally for locations like this, leisure=park is sufficient. Natural=grassland generally implies that the location is unmaintained (think the plains of Mongolia as an extreme example). If the whole park is covered in grass that workers or the community mow and look after, you can use surface=grass.

Hi! As this is a pitch, generally the accepted standard for marking its surface is via the surface key, so in this case surface=grass rather than landcover/landuse or other tags.

leisure=pitch

Hi!

In regards to the grassland you added here, it looks pretty well maintained rather than wild in the available imagery for this location, is it possible something like landuse=grass might be more appropriate?

Fantastic, thanks for checking :)

Great, thanks for your assistance :)

Hi Mark, I've added more detail to the area around this roundabout and I had to make some changes including splitting the exit and entry lanes. I'm not sure if I got the relation set up correctly as you had it or not, are you able to take a look if you have a moment? I'd really appreciate it, cheers :)

Hi JoMomminatorIsAMapper and welcome to OSM! Thanks for your additions to the map so far.

To help you out, I thought I should mention some little things I noticed in your changes. Nothing overly bad, but they're mistakes a lot of new mappers make.

1) Name= shouldn't be used for descriptions like "Shot Put Ring", as these can generally be achieved using other tagging (leisure=pitch+sport=[sport type]).

2) If you upgrade a feature that's already on the map from a single node/point to an area, you should normally merge in/remove the original point if it represents exactly the same thing you've just added. I tend to remove the tagging and use the old point to start drawing the new area, that way the history of the map is a little better preserved.

3) A lot of new mappers tend to add many unique features as leisure=park, even if they're not really parks. OSM defines parks in a specific way leisure=park?uselang=en . A fountain, for example probably shouldn't be tagged as a park. The OSM wiki is a great resource if you're not sure how to tag something.

Anyway, sorry to burden you with a wall of text. In general, your changes are really great :) Happy mapping!

Hi and welcome to OSM!

Thanks for your recent addition.

I've now fixed the error, but please be careful when moving things around on the map. You accidentally dragged the original node for Chase Park away from the park and left it in an incorrect location.

Hi!
There's already a pitch here called "Memorial Field" - is Whittemore Field the same feature?

76014244 about 6 years ago

Hi Chan2160 and welcome to OSM.

Some feedback regarding this edit:
1) If a simple road isn't split by an island or similar feature, there's no need to draw each lane as a separate road. Simply not setting the road as one way is generally the best practice.

2) You added an un-named park inside of the larger Tucker Ranch Recreation and Nature Complex area which is also tagged as a park - what were you trying to add?

Hi Kalamadae,

There's already a park at this location:
way/666702861#map=18/-33.32060/115.64592

Are you trying to map a different feature?

75967848 about 6 years ago

Hi bperry25, welcome to OSM :)

Regarding this changeset: you've added this park over a lot of houses and other features. In OSM, we define parks as per this page:
leisure=park?uselang=en

I reduced this park to the area I could see was obviously a park, but you might want to include other areas with your local knowledge (without the houses)

If you need any help, please let me know.

This shelter is already in a larger park, there's no need to tag this as a park as well :)
