| Public Transport V2 - many routes are invalid... | Thanks 101. Yes it is ‘tagging for the render’ and ‘we’ all do it. A selection is made that is ‘recognized’ so that the result of the entry will render - hopefully with something that matches what is not the ground. The only reason why I’d use ‘landuse=grass’ is because it renders, I alway try to tag grass as what it truly is - ‘landcover=grass’! I’ll make some change tomorrow. |

| Public Transport V2 - many routes are invalid... | Thanks Jo. I have changed it .. so it now links to London where these are a lot of corrections to be made. :) That is where I intended it to go, just did not do the permalink thing. Trust there are no obvious other errors? |

| MAPPING OF GOLDCOAST QUEENSLAND | I am not very comfortable with this. Surely mapping your local area/country would be far better than mapping a highly developed tourist area? If your area is well mapped then mapping for HOT might be a better thing to do? And lastly .. the change set comments don’t say what you are doing… this means nothing to me; #youthmappers #uniquemappersTeam#mapthedifference2018#microgrant Would it not be better to say “Adding buildings” ??? |

| Fixing multipolygons for the renderer | Hi, The ones I strike that ‘I cannot fix’, I find after a day or two thinking about it .. I can fix. Just takes me some time to ponder the problem. If your not local you may not have the knowledge of OSM resources that can help with broken admin boundaries .. these get broken when someone ‘improves’ a shared way. The other OSMinspector tool I use is routing .. this indicates places where routing will not work … they term it major roads <1m separation .. those I go after. Usually merging two nodes or joining a node to a way does the job there. The other one to watch out for is duplicate ways .. those are not so easy to fix but resolve routing issues. |

| Attempts to make changes arising from changes in the openstreetmap.org map rendering infrastructure | I’d not be too bothered about spiting the polygons… when I make new ones - yes I try to split them up - makes it easier as there are less bits to them if something does go wrong then it usually one effects one of them. In your case I’d simply worth through the errors shown on https://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=areas&lon=147.21387&lat=-31.88315&zoom=6 The polygons existed before and were handled … so the size of them should not be a problem. |

| posting screen shots (rendered in Microsoft Paint) in "New Diary Entry" | See @imagico/diary/44711 for the reason why this happened. |
|
| posting screen shots (rendered in Microsoft Paint) in "New Diary Entry" | The ones that are no longer rendering have problems - If it is supposed to be a single way enclosing an area .. then the way is not ‘closed’ - there is at least one gap. Or the way crosses itself. If it is a relation then - the outer is not closed or crosses itself. Or an inner crosses the outer. If you post the number of the way/relation .. or put a link to it like then people can go and ‘look’ at it them selves with all the tagging and nodes etc and make specific comments on it. |

| Managed forest polygon not rendering | I have removed the crossing ways of the golf course and a water feature, that should help the renders. I also added some details for the golf course. |
|
| Managed forest polygon not rendering | I have much larger polygons … and that is after they have been split for my own sanity! It is ~50 km wide and some 40 km tall. Some I have edited are at least twice that size. PS along with the id .. you should say way .. not relation. The first thing I searched on was relation/61623983 :) The polygon is now fixed. |

| marking trees | Rather than give individual instructions to everyone OSM has a wiki that individuals should refer to for information. For single trees natural=tree For a row of trees natural=tree_row For a group of trees natural=wood If you want to get specific then species=* the latin species name and species=* are the tags to use. |

| Dual freq GPS and map alignment | The blind have been navigating without GPS for many years. Some bubblers don’t have buttons. Ideally you map both actuator (and its method of use) and outlet together with there heights.. will also need data for steps.. The datum used by OSM may have to change… things re going over to a different system. So times will change. |
|
| Dual freq GPS and map alignment | Think you’ll find 30 cm accuracy is after averaging .. say 24 hours? Even if you can get 30 cm, there will have to be 2 traces with the same vehicle going in different directions to get an average for the road center. Then .. who needs that accuracy? Someone plotting their property boundaries maybe. But for normal people who can look up and see what is there, meters either way is good enough. |

| The state of drinking fountains in Vancouver, BC | That tag is used on all sorts of objects .. wells, streams… If you want to be specific you need a more specific tag, man_made=drinking_fountain. If it is a tap man_made=water_tap. |

| My quest to map the fairgrounds. | Humm in Australia we have ‘Show grounds’ .. these usually hold an annual agricultural show with some amusement rides for children. At other times the main ‘arena’ is also used for sporting matches, rodeos and some are used for tourist camping. Fair list of them in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showground Kent show ground in UK mapped as a tourist=attraction Way: Kent Showground (91401877) Newark Show ground in UK mapped as a tourist=attraction Way: Newark Showground (178396540) West Mids Show ground in UK mapped as a amenity=showground Way: West Mids Showground (48473181) Ingliston Show ground in UK mapped as a landuse=grass {idiocy} (100122713) Way: Ingliston Showground (100122713) Sydney Show ground in Australia mapped as a leisure=recreation_ground Way: Sydney Showground (22943525) Royal Hobart Show ground in Australia mapped as a leisure=park Way: Royal Hobart Showground (27614838) Lots of inconsistency here. Possibly owing to the varied purposes to which they are put, and the resulting things found there. |

| Classifiying streets in a medium-size city in Argentina | HI, Take a look at osm.wiki/East_Africa_Tagging_Guidelines. I think the photos add a lot to the page - you can quickly see the differences. They also cover both country and city areas. I do love the one with the elephant. |
|
| public_transport tags don't add any information | If data consumers need to have bus=yes and public_transport=platform to highway=bus_stop then let them add it as part of there filtering. Yes you can argue that ‘bus platforms’ exist .. but I’d simply don’t map them .. there is far too much to do without that. Fail to see why you need the platform when you have the stop, that is close enough for people to use. |

| I changed my vote for the PT "v2" scheme to no | Keep it simple .. for stupid people like me. I have four PT v2 routes that I keep an eye on. They have the bear minimum to satisfy OSMinspector and one other QA tool. I’m not going to add anything to them. They do get broken occasionally by well intended other mappers from time to time, but that is life. I am yet to do a diary entry on them .. and post it off to ‘my’ local mailing list so others can see how to do it - the easy way without any unnecessary additions. There are quite a few broken PT v2 routes .. they are simply PT v1 routes with the primary tag changed and little else as far as I can see. So making a simple guide as to how to fix them will be my contribution to getting others to fix them. At least it may help reducing the number of times they get broken. :) |
